Matthew McConaughey Tells the 'Alright, Alright, Alright' Origin Story for 'SNL' Monologue

Matthew McConaughey hits the stage for his opening monologue on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live on Saturday (November 21) in New York City.

The 46-year-old actor spent the monologue (via via Gossip Cop) taking the opportunity to explain the origin of his catch phrase, “alright, alright, alright.”

Matthew talked about how he was discovered and cast in his first acting role in the film Dazed and Confused. While working on the film, director Richard Linklater thought his character would fit well in a scene he wasn’t originally supposed to be in. The character was only supposed to have three lines in the movie, but thanks to his improvisation, Matthew‘s “alright, alright, alright” made it into the movie and the rest is history.
