Tom Welling Finalizes Divorce From Wife of Ten Years, Jamie

Tom Welling is officially divorced.

According to TMZ, the 38-year-old Smallville alum has reached a settlement with his wife of 10 years, Jamie White.

The site reports that Tom will pay her spousal support for five years, including 20 percent of his net professional income. However, if he earns more than $5 million a year, he keeps it.

The former couple reportedly divided other assets as well, like their horse farm in Florida and a home in Massachusetts. Jamie apparently gets to keep all the horses except one, which will go to Tom.

Jamie initially filed for divorce back in October 2013, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

what’s the point of getting married?

  • Wendy

I don’t understand spousal support at all. Child support obviously, you made the child, but why do people have to support their exes? It’s so stupid.

  • WandaBread

Can’t believe he’s 38 and married for ten years. He looks like a teenager. He should grow a beard (if he can) to make himself look like a MAN and not a young boy.

  • WandaBread

    spousal support? 😋

Am shocked that she got spousal support since it appears she has been involved with someone else. Not fair. Tom use to look so sad and lonely during that marriage. Hope she didn’t get to keep his name.

  • guestwhim

You’ve obviously never been in a serious relationship. People make huge life decisions for each other, including sacrifice living in a certain city, career opportunities, work and investments. Family laws often don’t make a lot of sense if you don’t have a good think about it. Spousal support law is fair and secondly it’s often applied FAIRLY, and women usually need it more than men due to social norms.

  • guestwhim

De factos are often also recognised, so not getting married won’t help you escape spousal support.

  • guestwhim

No fault divorces and settlements reflect 21st century thinking. Can’t believe the ignorant people posting on this site.

  • Barbe

No fault divorce settlements should be dividing everything 50-50 without spousal support, especially regarding someone who works and does not have children.

  • guestwhim

Family courts will look at the whole situation. Their lawyers advising them probably let them know that, as they haven’t gone to court as far as I know. If she was awarded support, he either volunteered it, or they had an prenup about it, or she can demonstrate time/opportunities/etc she gave up for him. People criticising spousal don’t understand it.

  • Barbe

Most of Tom’s fans are not happy with her, although realize that many opinions here are based on emotion rather than logic. . Your last statement makes sense and do appreciate your clarification.

  • Wendy

To each his own I guess. I just don’t think an adult should be forced to support another adult unless they wanted to. Just my opinion.

  • Wendy

You must get spousal support, lmao. People have different opinions, you’re gonna have to get used to it. It does not make us ignorant. Adults make adult decisions, and your EX shouldn’t have to be forced to support you when you’re not together anymore.

  • guestwhim

You need to look to populations and times where and when spousal support didn’t exist. Lots of disdvantaged people, especially women, would find it very hard to deal with a huge change in their family situations plus the lack of money. It’s like taxes. You’re not an island unto yourself so why shouldn’t you pay spousal support, if you can afford it, for someone who made huge life choices for and with you?

  • guestwhim

Don’t assume it’s a personally motivated thing because of your ignorance. I’m sorry, but you are. The legal systems of all the developed countries totally disagree. Read up on family law and you’ll see the horrible cases pre-spousal. In most cases it’s applied in a fair way to ensure balance post-marriage and to protect partners against too much disadvantage. YOU might not like the fact that marriage breakups often result in spousal payments, but I’m just saying you need to read up on the context. It’s not the case of one spouse scamming off the other. It’s good policy and protects the disadvantaged partners when they’ve contributed a lot to the marriage in ways other than financial, and in doing so often enabled the richer partner to achieve what they have done.

And assuming cheating spouses should be punished in some way in the aftermath is out of date in the legal context. That was the 50s.

  • Wendy

Chill, I’m not going to agree with you, so you don’t need to write such a long winded answer. Adults should look after themselves, that’s just my opinion. Obviously I think it’s different if children are involved. Again, to each their own.

  • Wendy

Those people weren’t forced to make those choices, they weren’t bound and gagged and forced to stop working. Why wouldn’t you work if you don’t have children? That’s the only reason I can see to not work, to be a stay at home mom, and that’s where child support comes in. And again, it’s my opinion, and you’re not going to change it.

  • guestwhim

That’s okay if you don’t agree, but you should be open to the idea that YOU or your MOTHER or your GRANDMOTHER could have, at some time or another, or in a parallel reality, entered into a domestic partnership and due to social norms or personal choice or personal promises, gave up your earning potential whether 100% or 50% or 25% or whatever, because your partner said, “I’ll take care of you the rest of your life.” This could have been an implicit statement. Then ops, 10, 15, 20 years down the line, the more powerful partner gets a lot of money and you have zero economic power in the marriage breakdown. Family relationship are complex and I’m just saying, be open to the idea that there’s a perfectly sensible reason behind spousal support.

  • guestwhim

That’s okay if you’re set in your opinion, but this is a policy we’re talking about, a law that has to apply fairly to the entire range of circumstances. And the fact is, people do give up working and furthering their economic opportunities because of personal relationships. That’s a fact and that’s why I’m right and you’re wrong.

  • Wendy

lol hey it’s my opinion. Obviously people get spousal support, I’m not going to go picket the courts and make them stop, calm down. I’m just saying, people shouldn’t rely on ex-partners for their money. Always make sure you are fine yourself, because you never know what will happen. And if people want to give up jobs because they have a husband, and no kids, that’s just not good planning in my world. Whatever, I’m done going back and forth lol, have a nice night. And don’t take it too seriously, it’s just a random commenters opinion on the internet.

But cheating spouses should not be rewarded either. I thought the court would have taken into consideration cohabitation with a boyfriend. Otherwise, someone like Tom would be supporting the ex as well as the boyfriend. That, to me, appears to be totally unfair and a gross imbalance post-marriage.

  • thegreen247cr

She didn’t make sacrifices for her career, in fact he support it. Those horses are her job, she is a rider and a trainer, they are worth a lot of money and she gets pay when they use them to father more horses, girl is not leaving on the streets and she comes from a well off family. Plus I think indirectly, Tom will be given money to her ex new man, which is unfair.

  • Barbe

What if the spouse who receives spousal support chose not to work and wanted to stay at home. I think Tom Welling supported her in whatever endeavor she CHOSE to develop or not to develop. Appears you like to throw around the word ignorant towards others a lot, yet it would take a really ignorant person to come here knowing that people here are Tom Welling fans.

  • guestwhim

It’s not the courts’/government’s job to pass judgement on relationship “cheating” and infidelity. That was in the 19th century maybe.

  • guestwhim

Sorry, but you are an ignorant person. I’ll stop at that. Just go read up on family law. Lots of hot heads going around saying this or that judgement is unfair. Again, there’s a foundation and reason for it.

  • Barbe

You do not get it. We do not care what family law says, we care what moral law says and those of us here personally believe that it just is not morally fair that he has to pay her when she is with her boyfriend. If she were alone and were not involved with another man, then the judgment would be more acceptable. Hopefully she and her boyfriend will get married so no more spousal support.

  • guestwhim

You don’t care? Well, heck, you need to care because that’s your society right there and you’re subject to these laws. Get a clue! What are you, 12? My point is it’s okay to disagree with what the law says if you know what you’re talking about and have a valid reason, but you’re disagreeing based on ignorance of policy reasons. And to say you don’t care about family law is BS because the only reason you’re posting is because you care very much about the outcome here.

  • Barbe

I have seen family law destroy good, decent families. I have seen family law force children to become adoptees when they had a fit, caring, capable birth father and birth family who fought to raise them. I have seen and known good decent men brought close to bankruptcy fighting for their basic civil rights to parent their child because of misapplied family law. An investigative reporter recently published findings on the corruption of family law and those who apply it in a particular northeastern state . You need to take off your rose colored one-sided feminist glasses and see just how flawed that entire system has become. I had been an activist in that area but finally realized that the only law that really matters is moral law.

  • Barbe

Seriously? “California Code 4323.(a)(1) Except as otherwise agreed to by the parties in writing, there is a rebuttal presumption, affecting the burden of proof, of decreased need for spousal support if the supported party is cohabiting with a nonmarital partner.”
So am thinking he volunteered to pay. By the way, spousal support IS 19th century thinking.

Jamie White looks too much like an uptight Lesbo anyhow.

Tom Welling is racists and a cheater. He had been cheating on Jamie for years with other women and also with some of his female costars. He has so many skeletons in his closet that some of his fans are blinded too. If I was Jamie I would have exposed everything that he had done to her to the world.
