Singer Erykah Badu Throws Major Shade at Iggy Azalea at Soul Train Awards 2015 (Video)

Singer songwriter Erykah Badu threw some major shade at Iggy Azalea while on stage at the 2015 Soul Train Awards, which aired on Sunday (November 29), and the moment is exploding all over social media.

In the opening monologue, the 44-year-old entertainer was pretending to call people up and invite them to the show.

“Uh yes? Who is this? Iggy Azalea?” Erykah said on stage. “Yeah, hey. Oh no no no no, you can come, ’cause what you doin’ is definitely not rap.” The audience immediately exploded when she said the final part of her sentence.

I think it’s really sad black fans and media have made Iggy their punching bag. Not funny. She’s doing her thing, you do yours. I thought Erykah was classy – not anymore. She’s basically Nicki Minaj territory now.

Do you call it major shade?
It’s even not funny, without discussing what Iggy doing is an ordinary rap as much as rap it can be.

  • Lauren

That wasn’t shade, that was an eclipse lol

  • Lauren

    Please tell me you’re joking…

  • VanityInsecurity

I really don’t get why these artist think its OK to publicly bash another artist.. actors, directors, writers, singers …never do this ..but RAP/Hip-Hop artist do this for a living.. thats why they are looked at like they are the bottom of the barrel ..

  • Legendary Trolly

Lighten up! Iggy is basically a punchline joke and its no big deal! She’s going to go on twitter and cry and complain! She’s a good rapper but her rap voice is so goofy, she needs to improve a little!

  • Legendary Trolly

Yea but Iggy has such a goofy rap voice, its fun to make jokes on her!

  • VanityInsecurity

That is the point..that you failed to grasp.. who is anyone to make any other artist a punchline joke? If you think that’s not a big deal then go sort out your priorities. Music comes in all forms, everyone has a different vision & version to what kind of music they want to produce into the world. Its for fans to decide if they like it or not.

No dear…it has nothing to do with “Black” fans. It’s strictly that Iggy is not a real rapper. She can’t rap and she doesn’t write her own raps, so no, she gets no respect in the hip hop game. She needs to find a lane that she can truly work. “Black” fans have respect for Eminem, Beastie Boys, House of Pain, 3rd Bass, Yelawolf, Macklemore and a few others because they are authentic, innovative, creative and can deliver. Iggy, sorry, she doesn’t cut it. It has nothing to do with being “Black”.

  • Weeping Mary

Funny how Hip Hip artists are looked at like they are at the bottom of the barrel but everyone in Pop, Rock, Dance, Electronica, R&B and even Country turn to Hip Hop Artists to make them relevant. And to be clear, artists of different genres have had public feuds and bashing since the beginning of time. I guess when Katy Perry and Taylor Swift did it, it was cute. I guess when Joan Crawford and Betty Davis did it, it was cute. I guess when George Clooney and Russell Crowe did it, it was cute. But heaven forbid, if you’re Hip Hop Artists doing it, you’re at the bottom of the barrel. Get over yourself.

  • Weeping Mary

And everyone also has the freedom of speech. Fans are what?…People and people have the right to say what they want. We don’t have to agree with it, but it is what it is. There are people out there who don’t like Erykah Badu’s music and she’s been criticized as well but is she crying and whining or have fans crying and whining for her? NO! She just does her music and keep it moving because she is secure in her ability to truly create. Maybe if Iggy becomes authentic, none of this will matter to her.

  • Weeping Mary

    Haaaa!!!!! Love it!!!!

  • Weeping Mary

Queen of Rap? LMAO!!!! Yes, Saad Rock, you are sad if you believe that BS LOL

  • Lauren

The whole pine tree, AND it’s shadow lol

  • SaraJ

Whatever. She’s a pop artist harming NO ONE and gets this from Erykah Badu? Ridiculous. I didn’t say racist – but it’s ridiculous. Bullying.

  • Legendary Trolly

No It is YOU who missed my point! She IS a joke, I mean come on…She’s a goofball, and when people go in, she cries and complains, plays victim! Too scared to make a rap song, dissing her rap enemies, but go on twitter and nag about it! It makes laughing at her, funnier! Fans have decided that she sounds silly with that little rap voice she uses, and we let her know!

  • JEN

Iggy will not comment except to say Ekkahhh who?

  • Gina

If Iggy admits to being a pop artist instead of trying to pass herself off as a rapper, then people would have more respect for her.

  • Weeping Mary

You may as well had said racist because what was your relevances for saying “Black” fans. Because guess what…there are White people who don’t like Iggy either. And if Iggy actually called herself a Pop artist, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation because that’s what she is…a Pop artist TRYING to rap. But she’s claiming Hip Hop and Hip Hop she is NOT!!!!

  • Dee

this comment was so on point.

  • Weeping Mary

    Yes…exactly!!!
