'Star Wars' Breaks Opening Day Record with $120.5 Million
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially broken the opening day box office record with a gross of $120.5 million on Friday (December 18).
The film brought in $57 million from Thursday night previews, which is included in the full Friday gross. It is predicted that the movie will make $240-$245 million for the opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The previous opening day record was held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which made $91 million on its first day back in July 2011. The Force Awakens easily beat that record and it will also break the opening weekend record, currently held by Jurassic World with $208.8 million.
It was also announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has crossed the $250 million mark at the global box office in just three days as some countries got the movie a little earlier.
