'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Breaks Global Opening Record!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken the global box office opening weekend record after all following initial reports that it fell short of the feat.
The new movie’s opening weekend total is reportedly now set at $528 million, breaking the record set by Jurassic World earlier this year with $524.9 million.
Star Wars was originally said to have opened in North America with $238 million, but the number has been adjusted up to around $247 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Final numbers are set to be released later today.
Something that held The Force Awakens back from having an even bigger opening was that it will not be released in China until January 9. The country is the second biggest box office region in the world.
