'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Director Talks Film's Deleted Scenes

Star Wars super fans have noticed that some scenes that appeared in various trailers and TV spots did not appear in The Force Awakens.

Director J.J. Abrams did an interview with EW, where he pointed to two specific scenes that did not make the cut.

“There’s a shot where Kylo Ren turns on his lightsaber, which was also not in the movie,” J.J. said. “There were a bunch of things we ended up not using.”

Another scene that did not make the cut is Maz Kanata (played by Lupita Nyong’o) giving the Skywalker lightsaber to Carrie Fisher‘s General Leia.

“That was a scene actually filmed, but we took out. At one point, Maz used to continue along with the characters back to the Resistance base, but we realized that she really had nothing to do there of value, except to be sitting around,” J.J. continued. J.J. also acknowledged a moment in the trailer where the Millennium Falcon crashes into some trees with Rey in the driver’s seat. J.J. added that this was actually two different scenes that they combined to create the trailer.
