Leonardo DiCaprio Helps Sean Penn Raise $7 Million for Haiti!

Leonardo DiCaprio hits the stage to speak to the crowed at the 2016 Help Haiti Home Gala to benefit to J/P Haitian Relief Organization on Saturday night (January 9) at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 41-year-old actor helped his pal Sean Penn raise over $7 million for the cause. One of the items auctioned off was a lunch date with the two actors!

Other celebs in attendance included Jason Segal with girlfriend Alexis Mixter, Emile Hirsch, Patrick Stewart and wife Sunny Ozell, and Facebook co-founder Sean Parker and wife Alexandra Lenas.

Leo‘s new movie The Revenant is doing strong business at the box office. It won Friday over the mega-smash Star Wars: The Force Awakens and has a good shot at winning the weekend as well!

Leo is not gonna beat star wars this weekend but he came pretty close with second place:

Inarritu’s western was +4% on Saturday with a $15M take putting it on course for a $38.4M-$38.8M opening. Mindblowing, considering it’s a gritty, bloody western, certain to stoke any fan of the genre. Of course, guys love this as indicated by their 53% turnout per CinemaScore, but according to Rentrak’s PostTrak women aren’t covering their eyes even during that Leonardo DiCaprio bear maul scene: 49% graded Revenant as excellent to 46% guys.

Good to see Leo helping raise funds for Help Haiti and the people in need!

I don’t have all the facts so I don’t want to judge to quickly…but I cannot justify Penn’s actions of secretly meeting with former fugitive and murdering drug lord El Chapo for the sake of getting a story. This doesn’t sit well with me…

  • Zzzzzz

Hi ladies! Great to see that Leo is still involved in raising money for Haiti. He is looking great – love the stubble and his smile!

  • Zzzzzz

Hi! I have to agree with you on that.

  • Dream Girl

I want to go see Revenant again on big screen.

It wasn’t for a movie deal? lol #Argo 2.0 lol

Does Leonardo DiCaprio play the guitar?

Not that we know of, but that didn’t stop him from buying one last night.

The Revenant star won a guitar once owned by Bono for $100,000 during the live auction at Sean Penn’s annual J/P Haitian Relief Organization gala in Beverly Hills.

That wasn’t the only way the DiCaprio chipped in. A package that included lunch with him and Penn as well as a five-night stay at his Palm Springs estate went for a whopping $200,000.

By the end of the night, $7 million was raised for J/P HRO.

I think I’m going to call Leo Sad Eyes from now on.

  • Revengefan0101

    Bono owned it. It’s a collector’s item.

  • Still Together

Just gloomy about the planet and the future.

  • Revengefan0101

I haven’t seen any joy in his eyes since around the time of The Departed.

  • Dis gonna be gud

I wonder why. During that time he seemed really fun and didn’t take himself as serious. Now we only see his “fun” side on occasions.

  • Dis gonna be gud

Here’s hoping he looks good there.

  • girl93

Agreed, he needs to chill out and enjoy life more!

He cares a lot what people thinks about him

So I watched Carol yesterday, just finished Steve Jobs.

Carol was good, my only problem is that the first 45 min or so of the movie were kind of too slow and didn’t catch my attention, i got distracted a few times with my phone cause i was bored. From then on the movie got better, with more things happening.
Performances were alright, though I don’t think Cate Blanchett was that amazing. She was good but her performance (face expressions, body language, entonation) remembered me a lot of her Blue Jasmine character so I was disappointed at that.

Steve Jobs was better than I imagined. I thought I would get bored when I saw it was 2hours long but it actually had a good rhythm in my opinion. Fassbender was actually really good but Kate Winslet omg! What’s her thing with accents? Cause early on she said sth about the little girl liking her accent and I was like ‘which accent is she talking about?’ I thing at some point throughout the movie she had sth similar to the accent she’s supposed to have but just for a few lines. I was confussed. Honestly considering other contenders’ performances it would be unfair if she wins.
And I had no idea Jobs was a jerk to that extent! The internet is so crowded with inspiring quotes he said you would actually think he was not only a genious but the nicest person alive. No wonder they didn’t want the movie made lol

  • Dis gonna be gud

Perhaps when he wins the Oscar he’ll be more relaxed in front of the public? I hope so.

  • Revengefan0101

Something must have happened in his personal life. I’m not sure. I hope we don’t see this tonight: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-300SL9UC2sI/UmFBycs8D6I/AAAAAAAABJA/xPwmvbS9eZI/s1600/Sad-Leonardo-Dicaprio-Golden-Globe-Awards.gif

  • girl93

    I hope not!!

  • girl93

Who knows… I think an Oscar won’t change anything

  • Dis gonna be gud

If he wins, we likely won’t be seeing SadLeo.

  • girl93

I agreed with Carol, was kinda bored at the beginning.

And Steve Jobs, I really liked the movie too, Fassbender was really good on it, very natural. And Kate Winslet, I don’t think she will win, Alicia Vikander is the favorite in this category.

  • Revengefan0101

Do you think Alicia and Fassbender are a real couple or a PR couple?

  • Charade

Actually I hope Leo really means what he says about trophies not giving you happiness.
Cause if inside he’s secretly waiting for that to happen he’ll be seriously disappointed and depressed when a few days after winning he realizes that yes, the trophy is sitting there and?? When the victory joy vanishes it won’t be watching a gold statue that brings true happiness into your life.

  • girl93

Well, they are very private, they don’t seem together at premieres or red carpets.

Maybe they are a real couple.

  • Dis gonna be gud

I agree. Although it may make him feel better that the memes will finally come to an end at least. I wonder if that’s why he seems so self conscious.

  • Dis gonna be gud

You’re right. Winning the Oscar will definitely make him happy but only temporarily.

  • also…

There’s plenty of times Leo was smiling at the globes but people like to perpetuate this idea that he’s sad about losing. that wasn’t even when he lost the golden globe yet people on the internet were using it as a meme of his reaction to losing.

  • girl93
  • Dis gonna be gud

Pretty sure it was during the Morgan Freeman tribute but the internet got a hold of it and made it look like that was his reaction to losing to Clooney.

  • also…

    I know that’s my point.

  • Revengefan0101

If he loses, #poorleo will start trending on Twitter again.

  • also…

I think he is serious and takes this promo very seriously.

  • Zzzzzz

Hi! Wasn’t that the time his Oma died?

  • xica

Very nice of them and great cause

  • xica

I didn’t like much Steve Jobs. I wasn’t bored throughout the movie but it wasn’t so entertaining either. They used too many technical words only a computer freak knows and named many people not everyone knows about unless you have always bought computer magazines. The parts were his daughter appears are the most entertaining imo

  • Revengefan0101

She died in 2008. The Departed was in 2006. It’s seems like a long time for him to be grieving her death though which makes me think it could be something else in his personal life.

  • Jo

    Great.

His last Rolling Stone interview was actually enlightening.

Leo gave largely generic answers, but the reporter was able to cipher a picture of Leo not usually seen.

Unless it end up being a not so good experience as he had with that Esquire interviewer.

  • xica

He must have his ups and downs

  • also…

Leo has to be the biggest movie star right now. Leo rises:

First for The Revenant, which not only decimated BoxOfficeMojo projections, but seems to have proven the idea of a star’s drawing power is not as dead as some may have you believe. DiCaprio’s last five films that opened in over 3,000 theaters have all grossed $30 million or more in their opening weekend. And that doesn’t include Shutter Island, which opened in 2,991 theaters back in 2010 and brought in $41 million. The $38 million for The Revenant serves as DiCaprio’s fourth largest opening of all-time.

Additionally, the film’s opening places it in the top five January openings of all-time, edging out Lone Survivor. Internationally, The Revenant pulled in an estimated $20.2 million from nine markets giving it a worldwide cume of $58.2 million.

Next weekend will be interesting as The Revenant is likely to find itself nominated in several Oscar categories this coming Thursday. Last year American Sniper dropped only 27.6% after its record-breaking opening, but it also had an “A+” CinemaScore compared to the “B+” The Revenant received. Other comparable titles and their second weekends include a 25.5% drop for Gran Torino in 2009, Zero Dark Thirty dipped 35.4% in 2013 and Lone Survivor fell 41.7%. Right now, a drop around 35-38% seems like a most likely scenario.
