Jennifer Lawrence Calls Out Reporter in Golden Globes Press Room (Video)

Jennifer Lawrence poses for photos with her trophy in the press room backstage at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 10) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 25-year-old actress called out a reporter for being behind his phone while asking a question about her win for the movie Joy.

“You can’t live your whole life behind your phone, bro,” Jen said while wagging her finger at him. “You can’t do that. You’ve got to live in the now.”

After he said sorry, the reporter went on to mention the Oscars and Jennifer interrupted him.

“We’re at the Golden Globes,” she said. “If you put your phone down you’d know that.”

He was using his phone as a translator for questions. She was so rude. She tries so hard to be funny sometimes or she’s just so opinionated naturally that its just starting to pour out of her lately! I like Jennifer but she’s becoming quite narcissistic and full of herself. She’s always thought highly of herself but now its starting to show a little too much

  • Bernie

Classless. All this notoriety has gone to her head.

  • http://m.imdb.com/name/nm7214052/ Les

I’m tired of people talking to me with their face planted in a phone too. He spoke English way too well for him to be using a translator.

  • Alphonse

How dare you speak on your phone when in my presence…do you know who I am?

  • Nicola

Not to mention her wagging her finger at him like she’s scolding a child. The press eats her up, though, so I’m sure most media outlets are omitting the full story and, instead, furiously applauding her for her candor.

  • potato

completely uncalled for. she’s trying to be a moral social justice warrior once again. it was just rude.

  • :)

Big headed and rude not only to reporters but to other celebs at the event :(

  • Little Paper Stars

Have we seen how he was holding his phone tho? For all we know he was holding it up. It’s possible she thought he was recording something. It’s very easy, and people seem very keen, to jump on her for this, but unless we were in the room we won’t really know. It seems a little difficult to see how things went down. If someone was asking me the one question they got and weren’t making eye contact with me and staring at my phone, I’d say something too.

David Bowie died last night. Who freaking cares about that so called golden globes atrocity? The whole show blew and everyone was a poster personality for alcoholism.

  • suzybel

But did she fall down? Or did she manage to stay on her feet for this one? She is a bit of a klutz.

  • C.R.

It is frustrating that people are more interested in their damn phones than the person sitting across from them.

  • Anna

If she shut her trap she would have heard the question. He knew exactly where he was at, but was asking her how she would do on Oscar night. I can’t believe media is reporting this like she did something good.

  • jo

maybe he was reading out the question from this phone??? maybe he was looking at it for checking something work related??

  • jo

    rude.

  • girl93

The reporter was reading the questions on his phone.

  • Charade

It’s official: It’s all gone up to her head.
Publicly embarrasing a journalist for doing his job in a room full of his colleagues, knowing it’s been recorded and will be seen all around the world.
He was holding his phone so what? Maybe he doesn’t use a notepad and had the questions noted there it’s 2016. Maybe English isn’t his 1st language and wanted to make sure he didn’t make any mistake while asking it. Maybe it’s his 1st time at this kind of events and was nervous so he felt more confident reading the question.
Anyways I feel like affter all this years we just saw the real side of Jennifer Lawrence.

  • millerz

I was so uncomfortable watching that, that’s exactly what it reminded me of! Unless someone was disrespectful to me, I would just be LOVING life if I were her. She doesn’t come off as grateful she comes off as entitled and that is SUCH a let down. I don’t think fame is changing her as much as her true colors are beginning to show. This is a girl who’s gotten everything she’s wanted in life, and pretty easily I might add! She’s only 25, if anyone needs to enjoy life a little more it’s her!

  • siennagold

She’s getting to be bitchy and annoying every year. I actually liked her a few years ago.

  • Sprite

Puts a damper on the evening, the reporter’s subject matter was out and quite a few that enhanced the Golden Globes were “Dressed to Empress”.

He asked a dumb stupid question like all the celebrity “journalists.” They are all as dum as a box of chewing gum.Why do they have to submit to this just for fans that are so stupid they like this crap.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I see nothing wrong with JL just saying what she felt like saying. Why should she pretend that it is OK to be unprepared when interviewing a young woman star. This guy should just go do something else he can be good at.He’s not good at interviewing celebrities.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

He is being childlike so you do shake your finger at adults like this who should know better what they want to ask/say to someone like JL. I can think of lots of questions I’d like to ask her but the rag I would be working for would probably censor me. So they have to have dummies working for them. In other words people who will ask the questions THEY ARE TOLD TO ASK. Do we need to continue with this charade.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

She works for what she does to give us the best performance she can. Then she has to submit to dolts like him. Men who are unprepared for their job and have to read questions from a telephone because they are so low on the totem pole they MUST ASK WHAT THEY ARE TOLD TO ASK. She has just had enough of the crap questions stupid “journalists” ask. Can you imagine Sean Penn, Fassbender, answering a stupid question like this politely, with a smile, and grateful that they are being asked stupid things. Why do you all expect a woman to submit to this.BECAUSE you have to in your life everyday you go to work. Get wise about the patriarchy’s domination of you.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

How dare you concentrate on your phone when you are with me? That means I am not interested in you at all, just what I have to ask you and write for my rag. Deconstruct what it means when someone is with you and more interested in their phone than YOU! Do you let your friends and boyfriends, girlfriends do this to you? Well, you shouldn’t. Go play with your phone, I’m too busy with my life to watch you and reply to what you read off it and say to me.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Dum question. How would she know how she would do on Oscar Night. It was a GOTCHA question. Whatever she said she would be damned. A Catch-22. She can’t win with that question or she is gonna lose with that question. It is an interrogating question not a dialogue with the Other question. Go read some intelligent interviews. These red carpet affairs are just shit to make a SPECTACLE for dum fans who like to watch dum things.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

No it hasn’t. She’s just refusing to play the dumb blonde game and be happy with um questions. They all can’t be like Monroe who twisted them into jokes on the asker. “What do you sleep in Miss Monroe?” “Chanel No. 5!”

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

If it’s his first time then he is a new hire who doesn’t have any experience, and cannot ask anything we might like to hear her say. Like Joy resonated with Mary Kay, didn’t she? I’d like to know what JL thought of that or what she thought of the real “mop” woman. If animal lovers of the elephant Nosey would play the Target performance piece in Joy while standing in line waiting for a ride on poor crippled Nosey they would destroy Nosey’s abuse at the circus. Who would ride her if there were women doing this with their kids every time she came to town with the circus. Gee I can think of so many things I would have liked to say to her that she would have loved being asked.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

The Golden globes are faux. I agree with you 700%.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Somebody needs to be moral about what’s going on in this world. You would have hated Brando coming out for Native Americans I bet.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES Why would you want a rag job if you didn’t know the language. If you did then you are even stupider than JL made you look.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

So? And you are never ever a klutz I guess when you are excited.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

He could have been making a movie on his phone eh?

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Worse than frustrating. It is an insult and we should not be patient with it for anyone. I watch college dating here where I live and they sit at tables in the bar, coffee house and play with their phones. So they never get to know each other. If you don’t know someone well and put yourself in a position that could become dangerous for you, whose fault is that. Do not go to a secluded place with someone who has been playing with his phone all night with you.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

So? He couldn’t have prepared for this “test” of interviewing a great film star and been charming and witty and intelligent and come across as someone a major newspaper might want to have working for them instead of a stupid celebrity blog.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

How do you feel when a teacher does that to you in a classroom? Well it’s the same thing.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I like this bitch part of JL. At last she has stopped being so adorable to stupid men asking stupid questions.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Yeh, it was rude. I LOVE IT! Rude is a capitalist bourgeois politeness. Remember that part from Divergent when Kris says politeness hides the truth as a teaching at Candor? Don’t you take these things seriously when a movie tries to get something into your head that’s valuable to know? Rude is a 1950′s expression from an uptight girl/woman. Pursed lips, tight body, arms folded in disapproval. I can just see you.

  • Nicola

It’s astounding to see just how much you’ve failed to grasp the point. Reporters from around the world cover these types of events and spoiler alert: not everyone speaks English as a native language. This has nothing to do with patriarchy, preparedness, or whatever nonsensical excuses you’re trying to spew. The man was trying to translate his thoughts and, subsequently, his question, to the best of his ability and she tore him apart. She’s been asked in previous years if and how these early award show wins might prepare her for the Oscars so it’s not a new concept for her to ponder.

  • Anna

Oh yes because Jennifer Lawrence is bright enough to answer an intelligent question. LMAO!!! She’s was asked a question that most media reporters ask. “How do you think you’ll do at the Oscars? How do you think you’ll fair at the Oscars?” That’s what most actors are asked after winning a Golden Globe. We live in a society that relay on their phone more than a freaking pen and notepad. Her first comment to him about being on the phone would have been okay, but then she had to be a total A-hole about his question when she clearly hadn’t listen to what he was asking… That’s what made her behavior wrong.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

No it’s not new at all. That’s my point. Tired old questions from tired old men who are not prepared for their job. Get a blogger to interview her, not a 35th rate “journalist.” IF he doesn’t know the questions he is SUPPOSED to ask because they will fire him if he doesn’t toe the party line, why should she have to put up with him? Why should we? And why do you? These old men in the MAN BOX keep running the show. Get a savvy woman to interview her not someone who doesn’t speak English, probably doesn’t know her films, and gets PAID FOR BEING LOUSY!

  • Nicola

Women and ::gasp:: even journalists who have a perfect grasp of the English language always repeat questions. Have you never seen a press junket? Actors may end up repeating the same answer 50 times in one day since they’re meeting with a number of media sources. That’s the nature of their profession and Jennifer is not new to the industry.

  • millerz

blah blah blah she’s not perfect and she could have handled it better than waving her finger at someone who just took park in GIVING her the award she just received. I don’t care if he was looking at his phone, picking his nose, or scratching his ass.

  • jo

    fuck off

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

So we have dum “journalists” repeating dum questions & celebrities repeating the same old answers like a CNN repeating tape of the “latest” news. The fact that you think this is the way it should be MEANS that dum has been normalized, which means dum has been INSTITUTIONALIZED becoming invisible soyou don’t even notice it’s dum and stupid. Congrats. You are one of the ones they intended to brainwash into dum. You got it!

  • Meri

If you’re going to call out someone for being “dumb” and “stupid”, use proper sentence structure and grammar so YOU don’t come off as “dumb” and “stupid”.

  • Meri

Preach! Exactly what I thought! Someone has some sense.

  • Allure

smdh people don’t know humor now days…

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

OK. Critique if for me.I want to know how you would do it.You don’t understand restrictive and non-restrictive clauses?

  • George

The reporter should have replied her back: Do not worry Jlaw I am not taking pictures of myself naked as you do, I am just using my phone as a translator. Nonetheless, It is understandable that Jlaw, after her incident with her phone, may be having a hatred for those devices.

  • Meri

I will critique you, since I know I’m right and you’re wrong. If you remove “dumb” or “stupid” from your first sentence, the meaning of that sentence is the same. You’re the one who doesn’t understand restrictive and nonrestrictive clauses. Look it up, and actually comprehend it. This is how I would’ve done it… “He asked a stupid question like all the celebrity journalists do. They’re as dumb as a box of chewing gum. Why should they submit to this crap just for the fans who like it.”
