Fresh Prince's Janet Hubert Slams Will & Jada Pinkett-Smith's Oscars 2016 Boycott Again

Will Smith‘s former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Janet Hubert called out him and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s Oscars 2016 boycott earlier in the week, and she’s not holding anything back in this new interview.

“The Smiths just irked me because they are such pretenders and everything is a photo op. It’s just self-contrived because her hubby didn’t get a nomination,” the 60-year-old actress told the Los Angeles Times about the 47-year-old actor and 44-year-old actress.

“I was looking at this ridiculousness people called a historic moment and I was annoyed,” Janet continued. “I was annoyed because it dilutes the movement when you only stand up for yourself. Y’all are at your mansion in a gilded cage, standing up there with billions of dollars in the bank. You could do more for the industry and for black Hollywood than anyone could. You could be mentoring young screenwriters. You could be setting up a program. You have the ability to do so much.”

“There are actors who have never gotten an Oscar and have done amazing work. If you are waiting for an award of a little … gold statue and that’s supposed to validate you, then you’re not in this business for the right reasons. We do the work. It’s about the work. It’s about taking the pages of a script and bringing them to life. It ain’t that deep. We get paid a lot of money to do very little work,” Janet added.

Note to the Smiths, whiney little twits that they are. Nobody cares if you boycott the Oscars. Not that many people watch them anyway.

I would agree with her but she’s spent 20 years trash talking Will and Jada Smith. She obviously has personal issues with these people… maybe Will didnt pay her well enough on Fresh Prince.

Totally agree with Janet. The Smiths just only look for attention. And made a storm, a stupid issue of racism.

Janet’s not wrong. Honestly this “Boycott the Oscars” movement is just a bunch of millionaire’s throwing a temper tantrum because something didn’t go their way. That’s what it looks like on the surface. They’re not actually doing anything to change the situation. I don’t think people are going to be worried about Spike Lee or Will and Jada not showing up.

I can see Janet Hubert’s point of view, from her perspective she hasn’t got a hope in Hell of ever in Infinite Reincarnations being awarded an Oscar Nomination for her acting, there is very little quality, talent or skill on her part to speak of. However there is also the point of view of African Americans that are & were good enough for a Nomination, maybe not an Actual Oscar, but many performances have been oscar nomination worthy and from their point of view both the executives that make the decisions regarding what is made & who gets roles and the Nominees need to be asked how they feel about no nominations being earned by qualified, highly talented African American Actors & Actresses. That way from the answers of each of them, we can reflect on the state of denial of both Nominee’s and Executives.

Aunt Viv is making herself look like a fool. She was an employee and her employer (Wil Smith) wanted to go in another direction. It happens every day. She should focus on how she will support the causes she believes in and stop telling other people what they should do with theirs.
