Celine Dion Holds Her Twins' Hands at Rene Angelil's Funeral

Celine Dion holds the hands of her five-year-old twin sons Nelson and Eddy as they head into Notre-Dame Basilica for Rene Angelil‘s funeral on Friday (January 22) in Montreal, Canada.

The 47-year-old singer’s son Rene-Charles, almost 15, walked into the church behind them.

Celine did not speak at all during the funeral, but her music played several times throughout the service. The entire two-hour service was live streamed online so the public could grieve with the family, as per Rene‘s wishes.

Rene-Charles got up in front of the hundreds of mourners to give a speech in honor of his late father. Make sure to grab some tissues before you watch it!

They did a red carpet for the funeral?
Celine has been playing Vegas way too long.

  • Dawne

Really? That’s what you got from this? Sad as hell for you and your soul…or lack of it.

  • Casey C

It was a National Funeral, one step down from a State funeral, offered by the Premier of Quebec and that’s simply the pomp and circumstance that occurs during one of those. she, and Rene as he planned his funeral before his death, had a hand in the service, and music and order etc, but not that. have a little respect.

  • Boomshakalaka

Lack of a soul? Really? I’ve never heard of red carpet funeral and it seems over the top. You need to chill.

I think this was beautiful. You have to send your loved one’s off with a loud trumpet. She seems to need to grieve in public. I think it’s a therapeutic type of thing. I hope she finds solace through the process. Life continues.

Boomshakalaka – You don’t understand that Celine and Rene were the closest thing to royalty in Canada. Their wedding was also televised. Much of the public wanted to grieve with the family.

she should have had a private service and then a public one, as many people (famous) do. seeing this man in his casket and looking at her theatrics is a bit much. it’s true grief obviously, but this woman has been an entertainer her whole life, so there is also a component of entertainment for sure and she knows it

Who are you or me or anyone else to say what she ‘should’ do when it comes to her grief? also, she wasn’t the one that planned the funeral – Rene planned it before his death. Celine is simply carrying out his wishes for what he wanted for his funeral. we could all wish for our loved ones to do the same when it’s our time.

Exactly Casey! Btw Jane if you felt her grief was genuine you would have never called it theatrics to begin with.

  • jane

well, she’s a public figure and has made this extremely public, so in this instance everyone is completely free to comment on it. it’s not private when it’s made public, so anyone can express an opinion. but it’s a spectacle, you don’t think? especially considering he wasn’t the famous one.

  • Polenca Va

Her twins look like girls with that long hair… and Rene Charles doesnt look like his father. ..

  • Dawne

Anyone who is anyone was there; the carpet was likely in recognition of their attendance……….it was not ‘walked’ on…………it could have been symbolic of Rene’s success……….who knows and who cares. And because YOU have never heard of it it should just never happen? I think you missed the whole point, Ms. Judgmental behind a computer monitor. C’mon back when you lose your husband and brother in a two day period and have five year old twins.

  • Boomshakalaka

Don’t put words in my mouth. Never said it should never happen. I simply made an observation. Celine Dion couldn’t care less about my opinion (or yours). So calm your little nerves.

  • Boomshakalaka

No, I didn’t know that. And thanks for the calm, rational explanation. I’ll respect the folks of Canada and their genuine feelings for this family.

  • disqus_45rp1qSR5H

Are you kidding me? royalty? You must mean like the King, Elvis.

  • SquidBillie

Not everyone looks like their father, none of my siblings or myself look like ours. You need a class in genetics.

  • Dee

Bruh. -___- The person clearly said *CANADIAN* ROYALTY. Jesus. Choose to actually read what someone is saying instead of stating your opinion and facts that have nothing to do with the conversation. As someone who is french canadian…. i dont think any of you who arent can understand just how much of a BIG ASS DEAL Celine is over here.

  • Dee

Thanks. She *is* a national treasure (here in quebec) And her husband happens to be the
man who discovered her talent and the people here have a great
deal of respect for her and her husband. and not to mention his battlewith cancer which weve all known…. which is why it was done in such a big and huge manner so that the anyone and everyone else could also attend.

  • disqus_45rp1qSR5H

I did ‘actually’ read it. It is idiotic. Just as idiotic as calling Elvis the King. This huge spectacle over the death of a singer’s manager is just…insipid.
