Ryan Murphy Announces Initiative to Take On Hollywood's Diversity Problem

Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee, American Horror Story, and American Crime Story, has just launched a new program called Half, which will mandate that half of the directors on his shows will be either women or minorities.

“I personally can do better,” the 50-year-old exec told THR. By the end of 2016, Ryan‘s goal is to have half of the directors on his shows be women and/or minorities.

“The industry has always been about, you come to us,” Ryan added. “There’s not a lot of effort and inclusion, and I’m saying, ‘No, we’re going to go to you.’”

Publicist Nanci Ryder‘s speech at The Hollywood Reporter‘s Women in Entertainment breakfast really inspired Ryan to make this step. “Nanci said, ‘People in power, you have a position and responsibility to change the industry,’ and I thought, ‘She’s right.’”
