Lily James Learned About Hollywood Gender Inequality 'The Hard Way'

Lily James gives a sultry gaze in her cover shoot for Town & Country magazine’s March 2016 issue, on sale now.

Here’s what the 26-year-old Pride and Prejudice and Zombies star shared with the mag:

On 2014 hackers releasing pictures of her current boyfriend Matt Smith with then-girlfriend Daisy Lowe: “It was terrifying and so unfair. You shouldn’t have to censor yourself in that way. I’ve begun to think like this, and it’s really sad.”

On gender inequality in Hollywood: “I realized really early on, especially because I’m young, that people will take advantage. I’m very open, and I stupidly thought that people would be open and fair with me, but they’re not. I sort of found out the hard way.”

On being approached by young fans after starring in Cinderella: “I didn’t want to break the illusion. I sort of wanted to pretend that I was Ella. They asked, ‘Where are your sisters? Is the magic real?’ Of course it’s real! Courage and kindness, courage and kindness.”

For more from Lily, please visit Town & Country.

FYI: Lily is wearing a Louis Vuitton dress and vest and Jelena Behrend earrings on the cover. She wears an Etro dress in the additional pictures.

I guess I’ll be called naive for saying this, but I’ve never understood the complaint of gender-inequality by successful actors.

Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Alba and now Lily James. Are they somehow thinking that becoming a millionaire movie star is ‘easy’ for men or that every guy wanting to be famous can while every woman has to struggle?

And also, what exactly do they want the end result to be? For a one-note actress like Alba to be the new James Bond, or an incredible talent like Christian Bale to get paid less or Lily James being guaranteed only Cinderella-level box office films every time?

Sure, things may not be entirely fair between men and women or black and white. But to hear celebs complain about their problems just sounds so crazy if compared to what regular people deal with.

Just because you are successful, it doesn’t mean that you haven’t experienced gender-inequality! It’s no secret that in Hollywood (and in any field of work really), most men are paid more than most women, doing the exact same job, sometimes even less than a woman.
There are plenty of examples where you have a man and a woman doing the same amount of work on a movie, but the man is paid much, MUCH more.

The point is not for Alba to be the new Bond, or for Christian Bale to be paid less. The point is that if for example Christian Bale and Kate Winslet are both starring in a movie, and they have the same amount of work hours, Bale should not be paid more than Winslet. But you can bet that 9 out of 10 times, that will happen. And it’s not because Bale is a better actor than Winslet, or that Winslet does not have as good contract negotiators as Bale has. It just the simple fact that Bale is a man and Winslet is a woman. And that’s what these celebrities are “complaining” (I wouldn’t call it that) about. They want EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK!!!

Also, very often, a man is chosen over a woman to do a job, even if the woman is just as qualified or maybe even more qualified. But the man is chosen for the simple fact that he is a man. And that’s just so wrong!

“But to hear celebs complain about their problems just sounds so crazy if compared to what regular people deal with.” – but then maybe nobody should be complaining about anything because there is always someone who has it worse off than you.

I’ve seen the leaked photos of her current boyfriend and her boyfriend’s ex, and all I can say is he’s one kinky mtf. He had his gf tied up, with rope bruises and everything after.
