Vanessa Hudgens & Austin Butler Set Off Investigation After Carving Names into Arizona Rock

Vanessa Hudgens and her longtime love Austin Butler are being investigated for allegedly defacing a rock while spending Valentine’s Day together in Sedona, Arizona.

The 27-year-old Grease: Live star and 24-year-old Arrow actor illegally carved their names (with a heart around them) into a precious rock formation at the Coconino National Forest, according to TMZ.

Vanessa posted a photo of the carving on Instagram, which triggered the investigation. That photo has since been deleted.

Apparently there’s a federal law that prohibits “damaging natural surfaces or property of the United States.” The maximum punishment is a $5000 fine and/or 6 months in prison.

    Second that!

That really was a dumb move. Also Austin Butler’s from the Shannara Chronicles. His appearance on Arrow was limited to only 3 episodes.

just got back to Australia from a trip to Sedona 2 weeks ago, sacred place to me, it’s so special and majestic and peaceful there am shocked they could even do it, makes me feel so sick and so so sad. broken heart today

Oh for heaven’s sake. We don’t know exactly what rock they carved; it could have been on their way there, not necessarily in the national park. I have never heard of anything so stupid.

  • Maria

Stop jumping to conclusions. That could have been done on any rock anywhere. Could be in their backyard!

I agree i knew Austin was bad news from the beginning

  • Joher

There are worse things that actors do like cocaine, sexual harassment, fights, etc so I really find this stupid and funny at the same time, I guess people like to make a big deal out of everything.

  • Hello

Not only that, the heart could be very small. If they do anything, I doubt they’ll get charged the maximum. Also, I doubt they’ll find it in the midst of giant rock everywhere. I’m sure they’re not the first to do this and they surely aren’t going to be the last. I think that park is pathetic and just wanted some type of negative publicity if you ask me. Also, they should be glad that Vanessa and Austin were even advertising their park. I hope the lovely couple will never spend their dollars on that Sedona again.

  • Maria

Good points. It was also not done maliciously, in any way. It’s just so ridiculous.

  • SurayaG

haha how would that make it ok?

  • Maria

Oh, go hug a rock, and chill. There was nothing done maliciously, and I am sure she happily paid the fine when she realized it was illegal. Why would you take an innocent act like this and make it such a huge deal? There are far worse things to do. She and her BF often hike in these treasured areas, wherever they are, last year in New Zealand. At least they DO appreciate the wonders of nature. I wouldn’t shoot them for being a bit romantic on Valentine’s Day, when this happened.
