Elle Fanning Admits 'About Ray' Would Be a Challenge For Her
Here’s what the 17-year-old actress had to share:
On hitting 18 in April: “Everyone’s saying I’m an adult now … [but] I’m not grown up, I want to be a girl forever!”
On older sister Dakota: “We’re so close, I look up to her so much, and it’s not through business or work or movies, I just look up to her as my older sister, how she handles situations. My sister is extremely graceful and elegant, and I feel like I was always the younger one who was just clumsy, so I very much aspire to have that posture my sister has. She seems very classic, like Grace Kelly.”
On About Ray: “I knew it would be a huge challenge but I wanted to do it. I have a lot of transgender friends from school [her school has an LGBT club and Gay-Straight Alliance] so it’s something that we talk about a lot. I wanted to do it to help someone … maybe kids in a similar situation who see that movie would feel like they’re being heard, and hopefully we can make the world better for them and more accepting. Why not accept people for just being who they are? That’s who they are inside, why would we take someone’s voice away for that? So it was challenging, but I just love Ray so much, he’s so special to me.”
