Cheryl Tiegs on Ashley Graham's Swimsuit Issue Cover: It's Unhealthy

Cheryl Tiegs is criticizing Sports Illustrated for putting Ashley Graham, a plus-size model, on one of the Swimsuit Issue covers as she believes it’s unhealthy.

“I don’t like that we’re talking about full-figured women because it’s glamorizing them because your waist should be smaller than 35 [inches],” the 68-year-old former model told E! News.

“That’s what Dr. Oz said, and I’m sticking to it,” Cheryl added. “No, I don’t think it’s healthy. Her face is beautiful. Beautiful. But I don’t think it’s healthy in the long run.”

Ashley recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about being the first plus-size model to grace the magazine’s cover in its 52-year history.

having a smaller waist doesn’t make you healthier. I’m so sick of when people say ‘oh Im worried for her health’ when thinner girls eat complete shit and do no exercise and people say its so cute that this girl just eats junk and sits on her ass. not so concerned with health then are they? there are female athletes that would have a waist size above that, you gonna say they’re not healthy because the hack Dr Oz says so. what about all the athletes, male and female, who have an ‘obese’ BMI when they’re not obese at all. Barely anyone knows anymore who this woman is and she needs to slam another woman for press. pathetic

    Bye bish. Bye

I agree with Tiegs. Being a big, fat tank is not glamorous, and it’s downright unhealthy.
I see such physical carelessness every day, everywhere. Who needs to see it on the cover of a magazine?

  • Cruizin1960

So sorry SI decided to take away your soft porn this year. Deal with it and stop being so judgemental.

  • Deb

The girl on the cover is not even a little bit close to being a fat tank. Do you go outside and ever look at people?

  • Señor Cardgage

All I needed to read was “That’s what Dr. Oz said, and I’m sticking to it.” Anyone who says that loses all credibility.

  • Samm Lacroix

“that’s what Dr. Ozz says” is not a great start to a sentence unless it holds heavy sarcasm

  • Samm Lacroix

I agree but you are not looking at a big fat tank on the cover. You go to TLC and watch honey booboo for that

  • Samm Lacroix

you may also want to know that simply because you are skinny, does not by any means make you healthy. There’s massive issues today with under eating to be skinny as well as people having inside fat. Try looking up some of this stuff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFI

  • Gloria Lynn Truscott

    Exactly

  • Gloria Lynn Truscott

HMMM well to me she looks great is she sloppy fat NO she is not she is nowhere to being a fat tank you need to open your eyes but then again your one of them that must think if your over a size 2 your fat you need to get out more and see what a fat tank really looks like you disgust me with you remarks !

  • Wendy

Yeah, who needs to see a sexy girl on a magazine? How appalling!

  • RockyTop

I think, if I looked like Cheryl is looking these days, that I’d keep my mouth shut. She’s a plastic-faced, vapid, shallow, soulless shell. Deep down, I think she’s jealous. Based on her value system, she knows that she’s a decades-old has-been.

  • Revengefan0101

Ashley looks healthy to me. Healthy means eating a good diet and exercising. And women come in all shapes and sizes. The fashion industry’s obsession with being skinny is not healthy. The top runway models are a size 0 or a size 2. And most of them starve themselves to become sample size. Remember women like Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor? They were beautiful full figured women.

  • MollyBD

So Cheryl Tiegs want an anorexic person like her on the cover. This woman has been obsessed with being thin all her life. That is not healthy.

  • Amie

Ashley is beautiful on the cover.Cheryl Tiegs needs to stop body shaming that woman.

  • Rose Vasquez

    Bitch your face is unhealthy!!!

  • Amayama

Wow Cheryl Tiegs. You are uninformed, and also you suck.

  • Amayama

Also great job with the “she’s got a pretty face” backhanded compliment coupled with the fairy tale that we are glamorizing the plus size body. Are you high, Cheryl?

  • http://hisblossombunny.tumblr.com/ NerdyBirdy

    oh fuck off, bitch

  • 1urbanfan27

Cheryl Tiegs is an icon in the modeling world…I doubt she’s jealous…She’s entitled to her opinion…

  • Julie Wendt

When I was in high school I ate very little in order to stay thin. I was sick all of the time. While I was not as scrawny as Cheryl my doctor determined I was 13 pounds less than what I needed to sustain life. I did not see the apparent episode of Dr. Oz during which he spoke about women who carry around extra pounds but my doctor told me that being “model thin” is extremely dangerous. Because I had abused my body by being so thin it took me three years of eating healthy to regain my health.

  • Sassypants

Ashley is pretty but I think saying she eats a good diet and exercises is a stretch.

  • MorinMoss

Just because there are many bigger people doesn’t mean she’s not borderline obese.
    She’s 5′ 9″, 200 lbs and 46 in hips – that’s a REALLY big girl.
I remember what most people looked like in the 60s, 70s, 80s. etc – she would have been WAY above the norm back then.

  • Kim

I’m curious if she thinks the underweight model who was one of the three cover girls is unhealthy as well.

  • Revengefan0101

    She looks toned to me.

  • Damian

While I will say Dr. Oz does not lend you credibility and waist size is not a measure of health this girl is not a picture of health she is over weight, that is not to say some of the models may not be under weight. We should be supporting healthy and fit. Fitness should be the measure not weight.

  • Thomas

    pfft

now i’m interested in the person on the inside of whoever this model is.

and i just noticed her! woow!

Personally, I think Ashley looks like a real woman. Curvy and very shapely. Not sure why and when society demanded that we only like girls that look like that are corpses, or have legs so skinny they could get stuck in our straws. Looked into old pictures of CT and was not overwhelmed or taken with her shots. Nothing special and I bet it still bothers her today that she has become a forgotten has been.

  • Haven

She would rather have one of those skinny b****es on the cover who stay thin with cigarettes and caffeine all day, cuz that’s healthy.

  • xyz

    And her opinion = 0

  • http://WWW.NURREDIN.COM NURREDIN

Making love to a skinny b*tch like Tiegs is like riding a bicycle over train tracks. You might get there, but you’re going to feel every bump.

  • Nike

Are we surprised that a bony white bish things Graham is fat? BTW, Tiegs at Graham’s age COULD NEVA; Graham is stunningly gorgeous and looked sexy in the that Lane Bryant ad. Tiegs looked like a basic, white blonde; never even one quarter of Graham’s sex appeal.

  • Nike

    lol

    I see a beautiful woman,no matter the size .

Jelousy against girls who are actually naturally skinny isn’t healthy either

Rule of So! Please provide a quote from Cheryl stating she wants an “anorexic” person on the cover. What? you can’t? Thought so.

  • Applecorped

    Why? Because you say so?

  • Applecorped

Being overweight is unhealthy, period, full stop. Thankfully we live in a country where you can be overweight and still have a career in a field not normally associated with being overweight. That is good.
