Ben Affleck Responds to Ricky Gervais' 'Unfaithful' Joke

Ben Affleck is opening up about Ricky Gervais‘ joke about him from the 2016 Golden Globes back in January.

The comedian introduced the Batman v Superman actor’s longtime BFF Matt Damon to the stage and called him “the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to.”

In his new tell-all interview with The New York Times, Ben said that the gag “did not trouble him.”

“It’s the way Ricky Gervais perceives me, I suppose,” Ben said with a laugh. “Whatever. I’ve had jokes made at my expense before. It’s part of the deal.”

Wait. He didn’t get defensive and then start attacking his accusers on social media while recruiting his kiss-ass friends to try to make him look like a victim?

The guy handles criticism like a pro, yet the bloggers hate Ben Affleck and adore Kim Kardashian. This world is messed up.

Yes, yes..but only borderline at that..If Ricky had of made this joke to an English version of Matt and Ben-

They would have snapped back with a funny and clever line along the lines of – “yeah; not that you know of anyway” or something silly…as in he would make a joke about his apparent inability to keep his shit together..his dick in his pants..

People, reading this; and Wendy- I truly write this in GOOD Faith….RickyG has very typical British/Irish etc and Aussie humour..(dryer and darker that the average American..) and I am truly curious on why we seem- The Americans (many seem) to have SUCH different senses of humour..

—–”The comedian introduced the Batman v Superman actor’s longtime BFF Matt Damon to the stage and called him “the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to.”—–

In his new tell-all interview with The New York Times, Ben said that the gag “did not trouble him.”

“It’s the way Ricky Gervais perceives me, I suppose,” Ben said with a laugh. “Whatever. I’ve had jokes made at my expense before. It’s part of the deal.”

this is what I mean- Ben was still quite serious; though he seemed to brush it off; by saying ‘“It’s the way Ricky Gervais perceives me, I suppose,” Ben said with a laugh. “Whatever. I’ve had jokes made at my expense before. It’s part of the deal.” He actually reveals that he IS offended…Hope this makes sense…

I am writing in genuine curiosity…As you Americans have turned out some of the nest comedians; MANY many who have very dry dark humour; like Loius CK, Tina Fey…just to name a couple…

the non slap stick comedians….Hmm..I find it fascinating…that you guys turn out these great comics- yet SO many of you just dont seem to actually get the joke…

We Aussies /Brits/Irish LOVE LOVE LOVE to take the piss out of each other; in fact- its seen as a high compliment here- as the more you like and or respect someone- the more likely you are to take the Mick out of them..

I’ve lived in both London and Sydney most of my life- as well as Singapore; (visited many others) But Singapore was what showed me the most- as the large ExPat community there; we really stuck together and we (the Brits and Aussies etc) really noticed how SUPER sensitive the Yanks were..not ALL of course..

I am not an idiot; so PLEASE no abuse my online fellow humans- I am just trying to be authentic here and ask a question…

So its not all Americans who appear to have pretty lame senses of humour; just like not ALL Aussies have good senses of humour.

But the Yanks- their default position just seems to be that of-…oh I don’t even know how to word it..but I have found ; that they can just go from 0-10 in seconds if they feel they are being criticized or judged….

Ive read- many many times; this is WHY we have SO many leading men roles in Hollywood- like a ridik amount of top actors (considering we are only 24 million..) Ive read articles; that in casting for movies- they find the Aussie guys way more relaxed, easy going and to be really funny guys….Now these men are NOT comics; this is just what a LOT of Aussie guys are like…and women- oh and we love a joke at our expense; take the piss out of us and our country- and we will be laughing louder than u..

Oh- you know what..I think in writing this (gosh isnt it true; writing IS therapy) I just got it…! ;-) The difference between the average Yank versus the Commonwealth countries- WE DO NOT TAKE OURSELVES SO SERIOUSLY! Woot Woot! Yes- that is it! Also; we are usually quite happy to admit where and when if we were wrong about something; and in fact- we wil respect you MORE for coming out and saying ‘look at me; idiot here for hire. I massively F- _ K_D up!’

oh yeah- another thing- if I EVER get abuse online; its always from an American…they are SO super sensitive- God forbid ANYONE criticises them, make a differing comment to theirs or their great nation; which BTW; the rest of the world do NOT think this; that the US is the greatest..(you ONCE were; decades ago..)

So yes; the abuse thing- I’ve experienced it myself- several times…triggered by what I saw as an innocent, authentic comment- and taken crazy out of context by another…

This kind of thing is one of many- that the average American seems not to see; and in fact others see the general USA population to be quite closed minded and ignorant not only of the reality of the US but also their standing in the international arena.

Sorry for the rant- but this has bought stuff up for me that I am actually experiencing right now..I am a senior (as in experience not age) Admin in a largish closed FB group- 6k+ members; women ranging from 18-65- mostly all terrific, intelligent, good, kind and thoughtful women from all corners of the globe.

oh God; honestly- what should be an amazing – the FB group I aid in monitoring; to learn and grow (its an ED group) but even there- if we EVER have issues- rare, but they happen (someone getting into a slinging match)- its 100% the Americans…they go a bit nuts over the stupidest things; ALSO they just do not seem to understand or grasp the subtleties of humour; in the written word..

Before you attack me; KNOW that 4 of my closest friends are Americans- (they often joke; that THEY feel nervous and loathe making any comments at times- and that they feel they can be themselves and just be free with me; that I ‘get’ them..as they feel they will be attacked in real life or online..by other yanks…if they really spoke their truths..

We’ve noticed (in our group) that we needed to handle a certain demographic (particularly women 45plus) that these women; honestly..the hassle and stress they cause us…how such a high percentage of Yanks took everything…so to heart; and did NOT get jokes; or the clever way the average Brit/Oz etc speak…but it is also all age groups…

And AGAIN- I do not speak of ALL Americans; just many- and this IS a TRUE representation of what other countries thing of many of you..That you have a poor sense of humour..and seem more attracted to slap stick over clever stuff (again- many; not all)

Now the Canadians; they are a lot more like the Brits; is it because they are like us- as in we are all Commonwealth countries?

Anyway…pardon my rant…and disjointed post; I was going back and forward- but you get the jist….

Tired annoyed Aussie Chick writing ;-) <3 Would love any KIND intelligent feedback if you could be bothered….and AGAIN- this is NOT an attack on the US- just questioning things…
