'Game of Thrones' Might Get Shorter Seasons for Final Episodes

Game of Thrones might be getting fewer episodes in the upcoming final seasons.

The current sixth season will begin airing on April 24 and there might only be two more seasons after that.

“I think we’re down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We’re heading into the final lap,” showrunner David Benioff told Variety. “That’s the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that’s what we’re looking at.”

Sources told the trade that the 13 number is premature, but that there is a good possibility of there being less than 10 episodes in future seasons.

HBO’s programming president Michael Lombardo confirmed the news that the series might end in a few years.

“That’s my understanding from them right now, those have been the conversations we’ve had,” he said. “Because where these narratives go, it feels like another two years to them. As a television executive, as a fan, do I wish they said another six years? I do.”
