Selena Gomez on Going to Rehab for Lupus: 'I Needed Time to Just Be Okay'

Selena Gomez poses in a sexy topless photo for her new feature in GQ magazine’s May 2016 issue, on newsstands nationwide April 26.

Here’s what the 23-year-old actress and singer had to share:

On her time in rehab for Lupus: “No, no, no, no, no. First off, this is something that everyone always wants to fixate on. I got diagnosed with lupus. My mom had a very public miscarriage. So I had to cancel my tour. I needed time to just be okay. And I was going through leukemia”–– GQ notes that Selena most likely means chemotherapy here “and I went to two different locations for those treatments. It’s really frustrating, because I’m 100 percent allowed to have that, but I think people just want to have some sort of–– I understand what you’re asking but I’m just saying, I don’t think it really matters. My past seems to be way more fascinating for people than my future, which bums me out… I don’t ever really like to sit and dwell on what that experience was. Was it fun? No. Is it fun to have it? No.”

On child stars being easy targets: “We’re easy targets. Every single kid who was brought up like this is an easy target. It’s disgusting, because it’s interesting to grown adults that these kids go through weird things because they’re figuring out, ‘Do I like this? Do I love this? Maybe I love this person. Oh, I’m exposed to this, people are reporting my every move and this and that because of Instagram and Twitter and you can find out everything.’ There’s a difference between being a fan––there’s a difference between that and what you have to do… Because it’s, I don’t know, fun, maybe? It’s like watching a car crash as you’re driving past it. You want to watch it.”

On what is holding her back from roles she wants: “I’m young, and I look younger. So the roles that I want to go for, it’s all about how the face is. I can play like I’m 16 still. Doesn’t really work for the things I want to do… I want to have an experience that I would go a little bit stir-crazy with. I like people pushing a little bit.”

Poor kid. I feel sad for her. Whoever keeps trying to promote this little girl as sexy should stop. She looks like a ten-year-old trying to come off as sexy. You know who downloads those baby-faced pictures. That’s a whole industry in itself.

Who mixes up Leukemia with Chemotherapy? And your Lupus has to be pretty serious to have to undergo Chemo. Lupus runs in my family and as bad as my relatives have gotten they have never had to get Chemo. Something seems off here.

A friend of mine had chemo for her lupus and it actually worked really well for her. Lupus is tricky, it’s kind of trial and error for a lot of people. Chemo was my friends last resort. It’s not chemo you’d see cancer patients get. It’s a very low dose but my friend did lose a bit of her hair but she didn’t lose it all. It’s a manageable disease once you figure out what works for you.

  • Jess

Well that’s what I meant. It’s usually a last resort when other treatments have failed. So it’s odd to be diagnosed with Lupus and then immediately start Chemo, no? I’m glad it worked well for your friend!

What does this girl do other than get naked and pretend that she can sing?

She had cocain therapy. It is no secret she loves the pain killers, coke, and ecstasy.

I hope she is ok. Some people end up with organ failure and/or long term ailments from chemo. It’s up to her of course, but I think she should pick up more guest spots or play a young vampire lol. She could form professional relationships that result in other work that interests her.

Jess- Yeah it is very odd, but most of selenas BS attempts to explain all of this away are odd and unbelievable. In my opinion she got hooked on alcohol, weed, molly, aderol and was partying too hard. She was working for Live Nation (promoter) who were the only ones who could ok a cancellation or postponement of any or all of her tour. IMO family and PR team felt she needed rehab w/out delay and informed the promoter that she would not be able to perform the remaining leg (18 shows) of her tour. IMO rehab was an attempt to heal her, soften public opinion, & soften the legal, monetary blow Live Nation could impose. Her partying ways were well documentd then and now. Where there is smoke there is fire. PR team goes silent for 21 months after she leaves rehab, and comes back with Lupus right as she begins promo for the new record (go figure). Lupus patients active or in remission are to avoid alcohol and exposure to the sun, but she engages in both. She should have come clean and asked for forgiveness but she has enablers who can only see $$. She speaks at WE day events. What? IMO selena is a horrible role model. She mentions being concerned about her mom. Is this the same mom that she fired as her manager without informing her that she had been let go, and the same mom who was unaware that selena had put the house up for sale until mama comes home and sees a for sale sign in her front yard.(tmz). Sad, unbelievable, and still trying to sell to little kids. This what happens when talent is marginal and positive public opinion from strangers is your only marketable skill. I wish her well, but this upcoming tour schedule may grind her down like “stars dance” tour did. Selena needs family and real friends (samantha, francia) back in her life not these fame hungry parasite ho’s that we see hanging on to her (raquelle, carolyn)
