Diane Kruger Names Peter O'Toole as Meanest Actor She's Worked With

Diane Kruger played the role of Helen in the 2004 epic movie Troy and she says that her co-star Peter O’Toole is the meanest actor she has ever worked with.

“You know who wasn’t very pleasant, was Peter O’Toole,” the 39-year-old actress said while being interviewed by her Sky co-star Norman Reedus for Buzzfeed.

“It kind of sucked. He’s dead, so I can say that. But he wasn’t the most pleasant person,” Diane added. “He was just a drunk, and Peter O’Toole. You know, he had a two-day part, and I played Helen of Troy and he was Peter O’Toole, and he just wanted to make sure that everybody knew that he was Peter O’Toole. And he could barely make it up the stairs. We were on a set that was – you know, you have to climb, like, I don’t know, 100 steps to go up.”

“He was just – first of all, everybody thought he was gonna die right there and then. Because it was, you know, 120 degrees, and he had to walk up 100 stairs. And he was very old, and very drunk,” Diane continued.

Peter passed away in December 2013 at the age of 81.

Wasn’t O’Toole a cancer survivor, along with other health issues? Thought he’d had most of his stomach removed. So what Kruger identifies as drunk may well just have been elderly infirmity, especially under trying conditions. O’Toole worked with Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Richard Burton. Don’t know her experience or education, but if she was a mannequin Helen of Troy she may have been of no interest or use to an elderly working legend (& perhaps she should be grateful, Peter had a reputation earlier in his life). He did an interview with the Toronto Globe & Mail from a TV movie set in Oshawa, I thought he was remarkably patient with a bad interviewer. Have seen Lauren Bacall & Diana Rigg do the same, they certainly don’t have to. Oliver Reed died during film of Gladiator because he was still drinking, certainly not climbing stairs. Apparently Maggie Smith snapped at Helena Bonham Carter on the set of Room With a View when the younger actress criticized her. Pretty young things who haven’t had to work their way up possibly don’t have the respect or work ethic that their elders have learned, esp. in theatre, which many young stars have NO experience with, or training of any kind. Perhaps O’Toole was @ the stage Smith was on the set of Downton Abbey when asked if she wanted anything, she responded, “A death scene?”. I’m amazed they still show up to work @ all. Of course, O’Toole doesn’t anymore. Wonder what Jodie Foster thought of him. She is s veteran. Not a starlet.
