Rihanna Announces Billboard Music Awards Performance, Launches Global Scholarship Program
The 28-year-old singer’s performance will happen almost exactly ten years after she charted her first number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with her single “S.O.S.” She has gone on to become the artist to have the second most weeks in the chart’s number one slot!
Rihanna also announced this week that she has launched a global scholarship program with her Clara Lionel Foundation. The program is designed to help students achieve their fullest potential and obtain their college degree. With applications now open, the program will award full scholarships to youth in Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica and the United States providing them with the opportunity to receive an education anywhere in the United States.
“To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor,” Rihanna said in a statement. “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”
