Debra Messing Apologizes for Insensitive Tweet During UCLA Shooting
Debra Messing looks chic in a little black dress as she mingles during the Cadillac House Grand Opening on Wednesday (June 1) in New York City.
The Mysteries of Laura actress was joined by singer Kelly Rowland at the event. Also celebrating the opening were actress Mamie Gummer and actors Zachary Quinto and Andrew Rannells, all of whom made sure to grab a group selfie together.
Debra has taken to Twitter to apologize for an insensitive tweet she sent out during the UCLA shooting that day. She posted a photo of herself watching the “horrendous” news, but she was wearing a t-shirt with the slogan “Under the Gun.”
“I was so shocked and struck by the horrible IRONY that yet another shooting was occurring as I was participating in this effort,” Debra wrote in a message after deleting the post. “In an effort to highlight the irony, I posted a picture referencing the breaking news.”
“I am heartbroken and embarrassed that many people misconstrued my actions and that I caused offense,” Debra added. “The horrendous irony of the timing, I was hoping, would shine an even brighter light on the crisis and need for all of us to do something together to make the US safer. I am so truly sorry.”
