Maria Sharapova Suspended 2 Years From Professional Tennis for Failed Drug Test
The 29-year-old tennis pro was suspended today by the International Tennis Federation for taking meldonium, a blood flow boosting drug. Maria claimed she had used the drug since 2006, but it was recently banned.
“I take great responsibility and professionalism in my career every day,” Maria said at a press conference in March. “I made a huge mistake. I let my fans down. I let my sport down.”
The ruling can be appealed.
