Orlando Shooter's Father: It 'Had Nothing to Do With Religion'
More details are emerging surrounding a possible motive behind the devastating shooting on Saturday (June 11) at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla.
The shooter Omar Saddiqui Mateen‘s father, Mir Seddique, said that it had “nothing to do with religion.”
“We’re apologizing for the whole incident,” his father told NBC News. “We weren’t aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country.”
Seddique claimed a previous incident with his son may have sparked the shooting.
“We were in Downtown Miami, Bayside, people were playing music. And he saw two men kissing each other in front of his wife and kid and he got very angry,” he told NBC. “They were kissing each other and touching each other and he said, ‘Look at that. In front of my son they are doing that.’ And then we were in the men’s bathroom and men were kissing each other.”
At least 50 people were left dead and over 50 hospitalized in the worst mass shooting in United States history.
Our thoughts remain with the loved ones and victims during this time.
