Scarlett Johansson is the Highest-Grossing Actress of All Time

Scarlett Johansson is officially the highest-grossing actress ever!

The 31-year-old Avengers star has brought in a domestic box office revenue of $3.3 billion in the United States, according to Box Office Mojo.

She is 10th on the list of top-grossing movie stars in Hollywood.

Ahead of her on the list are all males – Harrison Ford, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Robert Downey Jr., Eddie Murphy, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and Michael Caine.

Since they are all older than her, Scarlett‘s also the youngest in the top 10.

The closest female is Cameron Diaz at No. 19, with Helena Bonham Carter at No. 26, Cate Blanchett at No. 29, and Julia Roberts at No. 30.

    Congrats!

Most of her movies are ensemble super hero fluff. She can’t carry a movie herself.

So that’s the strategy: star in a bunch of (semi-crap) comic book movies that allow you to make the highest grossing films list–then leverage it to make movies you REALLY want to be in.

I don’t get how on earth this is possible…the only movies of hers that made $$$ were the ensemble Marvel films soooo wtf are they calculating? what movie has she carried outside of Lucy and that came out last year..but what other movie has she carried solo. Explain this math to me. This would mean RDJ is the highest grossing actor ..

Lucy? She can carry a movie. Please just stop.

Of course you all come do discredit her smh

Yeah, did you read? RDJ is ahead of her in the top 10. Harrison Ford is first because of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc. They’re obviously not counting it differently depending on whether the actor is the lead or part of an ensemble. That’s also why Sam Jackson is #2 and always neck and neck with Harrison for the lead–all those Avengers and Star Wars movies. Never anything he headlines alone. So it’s to Harrison’s credit that he currently holds the lead and was the legitimate lead actor of two of the highest-grossing (and greatest) franchises of all time.

These are all luck and more to do with the film and production type than the actual actor: probably 70:30 ratio at max. She strikes a good balance between commercial and interesting films – though I stay away from the Marvel stuff personally. Ghost in the Shell will be a good test. I’m glad Jennifer Lawrence isn’t in the list. She’s sooooo annoying and gets picked for roles she has not business being in or ability to carry off.

Take away the Marvel films and she isn’t much. She even plays horribly as the Black Widow. The girl playing Dottie in Marvel’s Agent Carter was a better Black Widow than she was. I like Scarlett but let’s not kid our selves, she can’t really carry a film. That’s why Marvel has yet to give her her solo film.

This list is only about the gross of all the movies she has appeared in, not her box office power, which on her own, only has ONE film to count. If you listed only the films which she carried as the lead actor, she wouldn’t even be on the list. I saw LUCY ( and I like Scarlett ), but I wondered why anyone thought it needed to be made. A good concept, but the story disintegrated pretty fast.
