'Secret Life of Pets' Breaks Animation Record for First Weekend!
The Secret Life of Pets blasted into movie theaters this weekend and broke a record by having the biggest opening weekend ever for an original animated film.
The new movie brought in $103.17 million for its first three days, surpassing the $90.4 million made by last year’s Inside Out. It also had the widest opening ever for an animated film with 4,370 theaters.
Coming in second place was The Legend of Tarzan, which had a solid second weekend gross of $20.6 million with only a 46% drop.
Finding Dory moved to third place after ruling the box office for three weeks. Its $20.3 million weekend takes it to $422.5 million and its now the highest grossing Pixar movie of all time.
Rounding out the top five were Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates with a solid $16.6 million debut and The Purge: Election Year with $11.7 million in its second weekend.
