Iggy Azalea Opens Up About How She's Perceived in the Music Industry

Iggy Azalea takes the cover of Notion Magazine‘s Issue 73 for the Summer 2016.

Here’s what the 26-year-old rapper had to share:

On being vulnerable: “I’m tough and don’t like to be vulnerable even around my own mother.”

On how she is perceived: “We can all see I get a lot more sh*t than other people in the music business, that’s not even debatable.”

On things people say about her: “There isn’t anything awful left I haven’t heard said about me.”

You get more sh*t because you do sh*tty things. You’re not a victim.

“sh*tty things” please. there’s artists who’ve actually done harmful things/broken laws who get waaaaaaay less sh*t than her (going to this level cuz I don’t feel like comparing levels of “sh*tty things” that literally EVERY artist does nowadays or has done in the past. no one is ~unproblematic~ and yet some get different treatment FOR NO REASON. not liking someone’s music/thinking they have no talent does not give anyone a right to keep bullying that person, esp to the amount Iggy’s received in the past year. lbr.)

If you’re in the public eye and make racist comments, people are gonna call you out for it. Plain and simple.

  • MyGunIsNotPrejudice

So black rappers saying how much they hate white people is okay? Gotcha, you’re a racist yourself. She made a joke about blacks and popeyes, big whoop. Blacks talking about killing each other and cops but that’s fine with you right? I can careless about her music but it’s the blacks that are racist towards her. Blacks hate on anyone who is successful, but if you hate on a black person, they’re gonna riot and protest and label you a criminal.

Stop trying to appropriate Black music and culture when it suits you and you wouldn’t be getting so much flack. Why don’t you do sing country music or something, you’re a whack ass rapper and if you wasn’t White no one would even know your name

And why do you think you “get more shit” than other people? You don’t get to play the victim card, you’re a rapper. Own up to your mistakes and stop trying to blame the scene you work in. The problem is with you, not them.
