'Star Trek Beyond' Debuts Strong, 'Ice Age 5' Disappoints

Star Trek Beyond soared to number one at the box office this weekend!

The third film in the franchise, starring Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, the late Anton Yelchin, and more, brought in $59.6 million in its first weekend, though falling 14 percent short of the previous Star Trek Into Darkness, according to THR.

Coming in second place was The Secret Life of Pets with another $29.3 million earned in its third weekend.

The new Ice Age: Collision Course did not do so well however, coming in at number five with only $21 million.

Rounding out the top five were the new thriller Lights Out and Ghostbusters with $21.6 million each.

Meanwhile, Blake Lively and Kristen Stewart‘s Cafe Society expanded to 50 theaters, earning $875,000, for a location average of $17,500.
