Shailene Woodley & Rosario Dawson Are Skeptical Over Hillary Clinton

Shailene Woodley, Rosario Dawson, and Susan Sarandon attend a press conference in support of Ohip Rep. Nina Turner at the 2016 Democratic National Convention on Wednesday (July 27) in Philadelphia, Penn.

The ladies were also joined by Danny Glover while supporting Turner, a Bernie Sanders backer who says she was kicked off the DNC program without any reason given.

Rosario and Shailene spoke with The Young Turks about Nina and why they are skeptical about Hillary Clinton being the Democratic nominee.

“If you tell someone, ‘You have to vote for this person to prevent A, B, C and D,’ I don’t think there’s going to be much momentum,” Shailene said.

“When I’m at the DNC and I’m seeing Trump’s name everywhere because ‘Love Trumps Hate,’ I want to know that that love is actually there. Saying that you’re better than Trump is not saying very much … I think it’s important that [Sanders supporters’] votes are earned and not just expected to be delivered,” Rosario said.

I’m on the fence about Clinton too but it’s not like I can write in Sanders’ name when I go to the polls in November because he’s not running anymore. You gotta vote for somebody, it can’t be “Bernie or Bust” forever. I will, however, tell you this: I would rather vote for Clinton than betray my Democratic beliefs and cross party lines to vote for that walking worn-out Corinthian leather car seat that calls itself “Donald Trump”.

  • gradybridges

Are these 2 idiots skeptical over Donald Trump? I seriously don’t get what’s wrong with these people. It’s a 2 part system. If Donald gets in he will VETO anything Sanders does, Clinton will not

  • Shay M

I agree, if your biggest selling point is that you are not the other candidate or “like” the other candidate, you really don’t do anything for me. I want to hear why you are better suited for the position without hearing the other choice’s name in your declaration

  • gradybridges

So you wouldn’t vote for Clinton and in turn let Trump be President? Politics is compromnise

  • jl10

For Bernie supporters it should be really simple…

    Either bad tasting medicine…
Or a bullet to the head…

And if you have trouble as to which between Clinton and Trump, the analogy above is supposed to line up with… then you’re a lost cause anyways. Voting might be a bit too advance for you…

The only thing I can take from this is the deserved respect of the Bernie campaign, which they think is in danger of losing traction on it’s issues. It doesn’t help that Trump has co-opted some of the central themes ie. not taking anyones money, which in Trumps case means not even accepting money from his constituents and running his campaign from his twitter account, which continues to convolute the already fragile grip on the reality of Bernie supporters actually having ‘come out of pocket’ to get him where he currently is. The only thing I can say is that a vote for Trump is still a vote for America to go to hell in a handbasket. He’s not going to be able to entertain us out of anything. The only good I can see coming from this is a massive ballooning of the Democratic Party, which should work to everyones advantage down the road.

  • Dallas Yu

Not one person has been able to give me a reason to vote for Hillary Clinton without also mentioning Donald Trump.

    That’s called fearmongering guys.

The democrats want to elect someone who’s currently polling even to or less than a fascist monster, then they can go for it. If they’re not scared of Trump, I’m not going to be either and waste my vote on a corporatist.

  • Shay M

Yes, I will. I do not trust her as far as I can throw her. Her actions/decisions over the last 30 years have lead to deaths, rape cover-ups, election fraud, money laundering, national security threats, corruption, etc.

  • Legendary Trolly

I dont know who to vote for. Do you think Trump will be a terror? The media is making it seem so. I have no problem voting for Hillary to keep him from getting the job.

As far as Hillary, I hate how she panders and seems so fake

  • Legendary Trolly

Why does it have to be democrat or else? Its like playing racial teams and being biased for blacks because you think “They are your people”.

Im black but I dont think that the next cat is “my brother” just cuz he is black! Thats dumb af! Whether democrat, or republican, I will vote for whoever is best for the gig!

  • mercdem2

Hey folks, Bernie ALWAYS said the movement was NOT about him. IT’s about keeping our democratic representatives feet to the fire, and if they fuck around and don’t do the right thing, it’s about voting their asses OUT come mid-term elections. A revolution does not happen overnight. Keep your heads up, this progressive joint is just jumping off!

  • Myra Estopinal

It trump himself who is pointing out.The media is just reporting it. He is on twitter all the time. Proving he is a terror, by his own words. And thank God for fact checking>

  • Lynne

Time and again statements like yours have been made with absolutely nothing to back it up accept rumor, innuendo, outright lies, and more. Please actually read about her background from CREDIBLE sources. Find out what she has actually accomplished, and also, you will find the genesis for all the whispers about her and how they took root and why. Is she perfect? No. Who is, especially in the political arena. But she has spent a lifetime in public service. She has worked successfully with people of both parties. There is a lot more to her than what you read and hear on those sites that have a specific agenda, which is to keep in the public consciousness that she is untruthful, when Politifact has clearly shown that out of all of the 2016 candidates she is the most truthful of the lot.

  • Lynne

Yes Trump will be a terror and is actually a very dangerous man because he knows so little about how government works and will be easily manipulated. He is a narcissist as well, and egomaniac who, if you just listen to all his interviews going as far back as you want to go, out of his own mouth you hear how sexist, misogynistic, and racist he is. He is a loud mouthed blowhard as well. As for Hillary, please read about her from sources that print facts. She is well respected all over the world, has the experience both domestically and with regard to foreign policy. She is not fake either. She just does not speak well. Go and read about her “listening tours”. She is a listener, not a great orator. Read about her mother and grandmother and where she came from. Her public persona and her private is totally different, and people who work with her have gone on record as saying how frustrating it is to see how she is perceived because that is not what they see.

  • Edgedy

So here’s the problem, you may think Trump is the boogeyman and that he’s intolerant, racist, and for the most part the majority of the RNC’s platform is written by insane religious zealots.

But you have to appreciate that we, Bernie Sanders supporters, aren’t exactly living the high life. Most of us have college degrees so it’s not a question of education. The jobs we had to take have no prospect, health insurance, retirement, benefits or even allow us to get rid of any form of debt within the next 30 years of our lives.

Voting for Clinton may address new student debt by 2020, it also might raise the minimum wage by then. Chances are voter suppression that we saw was so common on the Democratic field might be worked on by 2022, when Hillary finally replaces a number of Republican Supreme Court Justices and they finally deal with the house of representatives gerrymandering.

The fact of the matter is that we perceive Clinton as the boogeyman. She’s deeply entrenched with corporate greed, has a conservative background and for all intensive purposes is a Republican in Democratic clothing. When and if she replaces Ruth Bader Ginsberg, whatever justice fills that role will not be as liberal minded as Ruth is.

So maybe I could get over the hot dickings Clinton gave Bernie. Maybe I could get over the white noise machines, voter suppression, the fact that 1/3 of Bernie’s delegates weren’t even allowed to vote on removal of superdelegates. The corporate greed and Hillary’s finance system which in turn, also funded said superdelegates pockets to make them vote for her. Clinton’s actions in Syria, the fact she’s already picking a fight with Putin and she’s not even in office. Lets just leave it that a lot of her past decisions and the financial backers who are behind her campaign will dominate the next 30 years just as badly as Trump’s decisions will.

So the bad taste of medicine won’t cure anything for me in the next decade and I’m supposed to accept it and vote for Hillary without any concessions while Bernie’s supporters like myself are ridiculed, attacked, insulted, and basically told to get in line? Honestly? I’d rather not.

  • Kit

sounds like you should vote Green party then to not betray your beliefs — because I assure you the Democratic doesnt give a shit about you, it is firmly the party of ‘the 10%’ professional ‘liberal class’ — they’re just relying on trapping your vote to keep up their charade

  • back/slash_syndicate

Do you even watch the young turks? I would assume you do, considering SOMETHING brought you here. So, if you are current with TYT coverage of the last ~2years, you would know they ARE the credible sourse of which you speak – and they have been DESTRYING hillary and her campaign just as much as trump’s. Clearly you don’t take anything negative about your precious corruption-engulfed warhawk as “legitimate”, even though time after time after time she’s been exposed on all the things you want to sugarcoat or completely disregard (because it doesnt play to or narrative and comfort zone) by all of the top ranked, unbiased and bi-partison outlets across the entire media spectrum.

  • back/slash_syndicate

Um, yes, that phony ABSOLUTELY will stop championing those causes implemented by bernie they very day she is granted the presidency. It’s called politics. They will say anything on the campaign trail to coerce votes. If she truly held those ideals, they would have been on her tick this whole time, NOT JUST WHEN SHE NEEDS BERNIE SUPPORTERS TO WIN.

  • Softballumpire

this video convince me enough to vote for either and i be voting for the other party

  • Lecouch

Would have been nice if someone just put a sock in Rosario Dawson’s mouth. Don’t these people get it, it’s fixed, Hillary is being carried by the media and the big money. Sanders was completely out to lunch when it came to reality and no one was going to step up and say “No” to Clinton. Sadly, we’ll all pay a huge price if Clinton is elected and these Hollywood types probably won’t understand it, but it will impact them as well, in time.

  • Lecouch

Get the facts about Clinton. You’re living in a fantasy world if you think she is a “good listener” and about her private persona, that is frightful. She is probably the most corrupt person who has ever run for the presidency and she is surrounded by corrupt people.

  • Harold Howe

I’ve lost all respect for Woodley, Dawson and particularly Sarandon.

    jerk.

These mental and emotional cripples all must have missed the entire DNC last week.

They sound like Hannity to me.

  • Harold Howe

    Grow up!

  • Legendary Trolly

He’s not sexist or racist. I seen him on so many reality shows. He is cool with everyone no matter the race or gender. But he says what he wants to say, and liberal media brainwashes everyone into believing that he is flatout racist which is absurdity.

  • Legendary Trolly

But the media makes it seem that he is flatout racist or sexist which is absurd. He has always been cool with all types of people. But I guess he became racist once he started saying what he wants.

  • Dallas Yu

    1. “Jerk”. Strong fighting words there.

    2. Saying “You must’ve missed the entire DNC” is the type of lazy mental shorthand I expect from Trump supporter. It’s not a reason, justification, or an argument, just a pointless statement with no content that someone’s ignorant can nod dumbly along to.
    Answer these questions:

    - What in the DNC should convince me to vote for Hillary Clinton?

    - What will Hillary Clinton do to make me trust that she will follow through on policy statements she’s made if she wins?

    - How can Hillary Clinton remove big money from politics if she’s primarily being funded by big money in politics?

    - Right after the DNC a Hillary friend and supporter Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe said she would support the TPP with a few minor changes once elected. This is at odds with her previously be against (and previous to that being for) the TPP. What is her actual position?

    - Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned after emails proved that as head of the DNC she targeted the Sanders campaign through lies, smear campaigns, collusion with the media, and infiltrating his campaign. Almost immediately after Hillary Clinton hired her on to her campaign. Why should I trust her when she hired a liar and a cheat to head her campaign?

If you can answer those questions truthfully, I’ll support Hillary Clinton over any other current candidate.

    3. I did see the DNC. I was watching multiple live streams when Sanders supporters and delegates had their credential revoked.
I saw when the DNC hired paid actors to come in and fill seats and cheer for Hillary Clinton so that half the stadium didn’t look empty when the remaining delegates walked out in protest.
I saw the changes in schedule and votes meant to trick Sanders delegates into missing key votes.
I saw the DNC ignoring the votes of Sanders delegates.
I saw the DNC fail to address the lies, cheating, and corruption they have engaged in for the past year against the Sanders campaign.
And finally, I saw when the DNC as a whole lied to the American people in their coverage and in their words as they said there is “Party Unity” while Hillary Clinton was installed as nominee. Clinton, who can’t even poll positively against Trump.

  • Harold Howe

“Jerk” is mild…. not fighting words.

And yes… had you watched the DNC you’d know that both Bernie and Liz Warren endorsed Hillary Clinton, that they both said that the Democratic platform and the positions Hillary is running on are the most progressive of any Democratic candidate in history and you would have heard in enormous detail what Hillary has been doing for many many years as a progressive.

    You’re a jerk all right.

  • Lynne

Yes, please do read some facts. Here is a place to start. They recount as far back as 1999 when her listening tours started. Don’t just ignore the link. Go and read. At least then you can disagree with it if you want, but READ something besides your norm. I watched both conventions. Did you? That is what any educated voter should have done.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/11/24/274190/-

  • Lynne

Please look at what you wrote. You “seen” him on many reality TV shows. Really?? This is not a joke. Our country is at stake here. He has zero foreign policy experience, zero understanding of domestic policy, he is capricious in nature and could very easily get us into world war three. He rants and blusters with the vocabulary of a 5th grader, and his recent comments and behavior regarding veterans and military makes him unfit to be a Commander in Chief. My father was a career Army man, brother served during VietNam, his partner received the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor serving in the Korean War as a surgeon. NONE would vote for a man like Trump. He is a disgrace, with his 5 deferments and “heel spurs” that kept him from serving (actually his daddy’s money made sure of that). So YOU need to do some educated research (go ahead and look up the meaning of capricious, cause I know you have no idea what it means), and stop listening to the propaganda machine manipulating you into believing Trump is going to Make American Great again (while his company makes clothes and ties in China and Mexico). Listen to him talk, listen to how he belittles women, minorities, the disabled. He a bully and a name caller. THAT is who you think should be our President?

  • Legendary Trolly

Some of this may be true, but all I said was that I dont think he’s sexist or racist! He’s cool with everyone! You may be right about everything else doe!

  • Lynne

Okay then. Check out these for his sexist behavior (and if not out and out sexist if you want to fudge a bit, his comments are mean and hateful in his name calling of women). http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/politics/donald-trump-sexism-tracker-every-offensive-comment-in-one-place/

    And for his racist comments:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-racist-examples_us_56d47177e4b03260bf777e83

  • Legendary Trolly

Im too lazy to read through all of this! What I do know is that he always was cool with everyone! The media wont make me think otherwise!

  • Lynne

Then you have absolutely no business voting. You and people like you can not afford to be “too lazy” to educate yourselves. The media is not spinning ANY of that. You can find video of him actually saying everything in these articles. Out of his own mouth. That is the one thing about these times….. cameras are everywhere, and in his case, he said these things either on TV or during recorded events. Please do not be dumb. It is times like this that I wish the school systems I have taught in did a better job of teaching students research and comprehension skills, history and law. Your statement above is appallingly ignorant. How can any citizen say they are too lazy to assimilate facts?

  • tigerbalm2010

Why do so-called celebrities feel it’s their right to weigh in on political issues? Do you really feel THAT self-important to assume we care about what you think?

  • Legendary Trolly

Not true! He says what he wants, then liberals spin it like he is flatout racist or sexist! He always been cool with everyone! And I never said I was voting for him because I dont think he’s qualified, myself. Im not voting for none of them!

  • Lynne

Yes, he calls women pigs, he says he has “a black”, he sure says what he wants all right. To be a president, he needs to learn some manners. The video clips are straight from his mouth. You are delusional. So glad you are not voting for him, but perhaps then you should start learning about other options.

  • Legendary Trolly

No he didnt Lol He called a woman that he disliked, a bad name! Im not sexist but if I get into an argument with a female I may say some mean things. That doesnt mean that I hate all women. Show me where he said “I hate all women, and boy do I have something in store for them. Because I am flatout sexist against them” Lol Or where he said “I hate all blacks…Cant stand them, and I, Donald Trump, am a racist” Lol

He speaks his mind, and liberal media hates it. So they take what he says, and then make up lies about he is flatout racist or sexist. Call it what it is. Call him brash or maybe rude. But dont push a lie!

  • Lynne

A candidate for the highest office in this country does not have the luxury of calling anyone names, even if he does not like them. And no, a racist does not say they are racist, their actions do that for them. This early behavior speaks volumes. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/12/15/doj-trump-s-early-businesses-blocked-blacks.html

These are facts, not spin. His comments about women make him more than just brash as well. I know you do not like to take time to read, but maybe just try this once.

  • Lynne

  • Legendary Trolly

Thats why people like him. Because other candidates are fake, but he says what he wants. He never ever in his life was a racist or a sexist until he ran for president.

Now all of a sudden he’s a racist.

Until you can post where he said he hated blacks and hated women, then I dont think you should spread lies! Lol

  • Lynne

When did you start believing that someone had to SAY they hate black people in order for them to be a racist? The link I sent to you (if you even looked at it) was from 1973, long before he ran for office, where his company specifically enacted policies that discriminated against black people who were trying to rent from them. That is racist. Racism is about behavior and it is about verbiage used. Same for sexism. I am all for curbing political correctness, but some of the things he has said are out of line. You think people like him because he says what he wants. Those people tend to be rather uneducated themselves, looking to a man who could not give a crap about any of them as he sits on his golden throne (yes there are pictures of him sitting on a golden throne he owns), and spouts about how he will make America great again while at the same time his company hires 78 new immigrants and sends production to China and Mexico. It is so discouraging to see so many ignorant people who think he is the second coming.

  • Legendary Trolly

Racism is about behavior. And from his actions, he has been cool with every race and gender!

People in general are tired of fakeness. Everyone likes him. The media makes it seem like everyone hates him, but the people who claim to hate him are secretly supporting him. You would think that NO one likes him. The media makes it seem like he is the most hated man on earth. But all of his “haters” enjoy what he’s bringing to the table!

With all that being said, I never said I was voting for him or anything like that. Im not voting for none of them!
