Christina Grimmie's Family 'Disappointed' in Lack of Memorial at Teen Choice Awards 2016

Christina Grimmie‘s family is reportedly not happy that their beloved family member was not honored in any way during the 2016 Teen Choice Awards.

The 22-year-old singer passed away earlier in the summer after being shot in an act of violence after her concert.

“While we are glad that Christina finally won her much deserved Teen Choice Award, we are also definitely disappointed that her name was not mentioned at any point during the two-hour broadcast,” a source close to the Grimmie family told ET in a statement. “It seems they could have paid honor or tribute to her in some way and that opportunity was missed. The fans have a right to be upset.”

There was a moment during the show where Jessica Alba welcomed several teens on stage who had been affected by gun violence. Christina won the Choice Web Star: Music award at the show.

What happened to her was an absolute tragedy. But let her rest in peace. Her death doesn’t need to be exploited for the sake a lame award show.

I understand where you’re coming from and agree with you on the “lame” part, but I think she absolutely should have been mentioned — actually, the better word here is “honored” — at some point last night. It’s a huge omission, and there really should have been some kind of tribute for her. I think last night’s Teen Choice Awards would have been much less “lame” had they done that.

Absolutely, but it’s totally unfair that the tribute was pretty racially inclined. The focus was set on the blacks that were killed with a quick mention of the Orlando shooting. Funny thing is, out of all the violent events mentioned during the tribute, Christina’s was the first one to occur. They completely ignored it.

  • Aimee M Parent

she should have been included in the tribute. so sad…

  • Mark Jekabson

That’s true, moreover she should have been there to participate in the ceremony regardless. In a better world, perhaps.

  • jane

too bad how she was killed and all, but let’s be real, she was barely even known, and not close to famous enough for any awards show, even a kiddie one

  • Gina

Sure, she should have been mentioned, but would she have been nominated let win an award had she not died in this tragic way? Just something to think about.
