Dylan O'Brien Resurfaces After Accident, Sports Scruffy Beard in New Photo

Dylan O’Brien resurfaced at a Jamba Juice over the weekend and a big fan of his happened to take his order and snapped a photo with him (and his scruffy beard)!

“MY LIFE HAS BEEN MADE, meeting you was the best thing ever 😍❀️😭 @dylanobrien,” she added, along with the photo of them together.

Vanessa also added on Twitter, “he was alone!! But he was smiling and laughing bc I was about to burst into tears,” and “he looks a lot better, he was smiling n all!!”

If you didn’t know, Dylan was seriously injured while filming The Maze Runner: The Death Cure earlier in the year, and has not been seen since the accident. He was run over by a car and broke several bones in his face. Production on the film was halted for weeks for Dylan to recover, and was recently given a new release date.

If this is him and this is what he looks like, why has he been hiding or kept in hiding by producers, studio or whatever? It made me think his injuries or his current look were so bad that he was locked away somewhere by some Hollywood mafia waiting until he looked normal to reappear. He looks the same but with a beard, normal enough to have him at the Teen Choice awards, for example, where he won an award last night. Unless he’s walking “funny” (for lack of a better word) or something.

Could be legal issues, could be any kind of not visibly apparent health issues, could be that they’ve been letting him rest given the severity of the accident.

Anyway, how about we let people deal with their tragic accidents however they see fit? He currently doesn’t have to promote anything, so it’s okay if he doesn’t show up to pick up meaningless awards.

By the way, he won four – all the categories he was nominated for.

He’ll be back to filming this September for American Assassin, and Deepwater Horizon is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, so we’ll see him working soon enough.

His most probably under a lot of pressure and stress. With what happened to him sounded serious enough to have almost had him killed. I don’t know about you but that would probably put someone under a lot of stress emotionally rather than physically. It was probably also hard to decide once he was “fully” recovered when to actaully come out in public. Also we don’t know how long his been fully recovered. He could have just as easily have gotten back to proper health a week ago or something. The studied or his agent probably have a say in when he comes out to the public as well.

Jo – did you read somewhere that he is for sure in American Assassin?? I have only seen that he was in talks for the role. The movie was listed among his filmography on his IMDb page but then it was removed. It would explain the beard…I think the Amer. Assassin character is supposed to pass for Middle Eastern?? (not sure)

his anxiety level before the accident was always pretty high so i cant even imagine what it’s like now.

Official CBS update report from July 28. Page 11:

“AMERICAN ASSASSIN, the action thriller based on the bestselling Simon
& Schuster novel by Vince Flynn, will begin filming this September.
Dylan O’Brien will play Mitch Rapp, a student recruited into the shadowy
world of counter terrorism and Michael Keaton will play Rapp’s mentor,
Stan Hurley. HOMELAND alumni Michael Cuesta will direct the thriller
from a screenplay by Stephen Schiff, with Laura di Bonaventura and Nick
    Wechsler producing.”

It’s been confirmed in small ways through other venues (a recent interview with Keaton, his costar; the fact that CBS Films has been replying on Twitter to people supporting Dylan for the role and saying “further” casting announcements will take place in August, etc.), but this is by far the most official one. Everyone with an account can take credits out of an IMDb page when the project has not been released yet. 100% whoever did it was a troll trying to make his fans worry.

I wouldn’t be so sure to say the beard is for the film, however. There is a scene in the book where his character has a beard, but it’s not integral to the plot (he’s not infiltrating cells and “passing” as Middle Eastern; just makes it easier to blend in). Dylan likes to let the hair grow during hiatus, so I think it’s just him. :) I certainly wouldn’t be putting razors near my face for as long as I could if I had been through what he has!

Jo – Thank you so much! I have been looking for this information for so long! I’m so excited that he’s in this!

  • Gina

I’m sure an accident like the one he endured was bound to give him PTSD or something.

  • devvv

They’ve already released the trailer. He’s in it.
