Anton Yelchin's Parents Give Heartbreaking Press Conference, File Wrongful Death Lawsuit (Video)

Anton Yelchin‘s parents – Viktor and Irina – filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler for a faulty gear shift in a Jeep that ended up killing their son earlier this summer.

“In spite of our grief we decided to come here to prevent other families for the same tragedy,” Viktor said in a press conference on Tuesday (August 2). “Anton was our only son and he was a remarkable human being very modest, very simple, very honest, generous, loving. It is wrong, it is against nature when the parents bury their own child.”

“Anton was a wonderful human being, a very gifted actor and a loving son,” Gary Dordick, Anton‘s family attorney, said during the press conference. “Anton’s untimely death was due to a defective 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had a defective electronic transmission shift. As a result of this defect, his vehicle had a roll away incident…We are seeking punitive damages because we believe Fiat, ZF North America knew that it was defective and they failed to take action to protect the families that trusted them…They put profits before safety. We intend to hold them accountable and intend to have jury.”

Heartbreaking to watch. You could tell he was their pride and joy. I wish this didn’t happen to him. He seemed like such a young nice man for a Hollywood star.

Such a shame. His poor parents…

I wish them all the luck in the world. Its time we took on ‘profits over people’ anyway. With TPP now threatening our lives we have an obligation.

poor anton…rest in peace little angel……

So so sorry. May Anton Yelchin rest in peace and condolences to his parents. This is really sad.

Legally speaking was this defect the subject of a recall. I had a defect and a recall notice -and I got around to it – it was the ignition issue with many GM vehicles, but I did not rush to the dealership, I got it done during my regularly oil change so if I had been given notice but did not take immediate steps to follow the instructions of the recall notice, I am not at least partially liable if the defect causes an accident in the meantime.

Its sick the way the press and lawyers act like vultures. The press and the lawyers take advantage of these parents and instead of (only) filing suit in the court of law, these sickos get these poor people out in front of the cameras for their 15 minutes of fame, they did not ask for. These people are grieving and are in no position to be giving interviews. The Lawyer should have done his job with the court system and not attempted to make this into a press fiasco.

All this will do is give Chrysler’s attorneys room to argue that the jury pool is biased due to the media coverage of this poor family’s tragic loss of their gifted son. Sick. All the media and lawyers see is $$$ and fame. The news media should take a long hard look at itself and really consider how little they contribute to building a better world.

    This is problematic:

“The Cherokee model was among 1.1 million vehicles recalled in April after regulators said its gear shifters have confused drivers, causing the SUVs to roll away unexpectedly and leading to dozens of injuries.”

“Anton Yelchin was sent an initial safety recall notice in May, and another notice was sent to the actor seven days after he died, notifying him that the company had a fix for the gear shifter, Dordick said.

“The safety recall was way too little and way too late,” the attorney said.”

Too little too late? He received his notice in May! That’s one month before he was killed. Anton did not take the notice seriously. He then received another notice the next month. (June 26th) He died on the 19th.
