Sarah Jessica Parker on Feminism: 'I Am Not a Feminist'

Sarah Jessica Parker takes the cover of Marie Claire magazine’s September 2016 issue, on newsstands August 16.

Here’s what the Divorce star had to share with the mag:

On the gender pay gap:
“I would like all of that nonsense to end. I would like women to get paid for the value of their contributions, not by old-fashioned ideas about gender.”

On marriage and divorce: “For me, it’s really the investment in the other person. And it’s the expectations you have. They change and you get smarter, and maybe you think those expectations aren’t worth striving for with this person, and that’s when people bail.”

On being a feminist: “I am not a feminist. I don’t think I qualify. I believe in women and I believe in equality, but I think there is so much that needs to be done that I don’t even want to separate it anymore. I’m so tired of separation. I just want people to be treated equally.”

But wanting to be treated equally is what feminism is all about though. What a dumb heaux.

  • LadyRed

If you believe that all people should be treated equally and there should not be a pay gap based on gender, then you ARE a feminist.

C’mon SJP ! Feminism is exactly about equality, between men and women. As same as BLM is about equality between black folks and white folks. Why people don’t get that ? Why they keep going “what about the others ?!” ? It’s about putting the spotlight of specific matters and problems within our society to achieve EQUALITY, all together. That’s why men can (and should) be feminists (*wink wink* Obama) and white people support the BLM movement.
Sorry for the rant guys, but I can’t stand women who go “I’m not a feminist duh”. It’s fucking annoying. And gee, I love SJP.

It annoys the hell out of me when people who clearly don’t know the meaning of feminism say “I’m not a feminist but I want equality”. People really should start to educate themselves a little bit more

lmao “i’m not a feminist” while simultaneously saying you believe in everything that makes someone a feminist. People think that feminism means we think women are better than men…not at all.

“I’m so tired of separation” this is very cute.
