Margot Robbie Explains Why Jared Leto's Joker Scenes Were Cut From 'Suicide Squad'

Suicide Squad was released earlier this month, and many fans are upset at how little The Joker (Jared Leto) was featured in the film.

Turns out, a lot of Joker scenes were filmed, but ended up being cut. Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn, explained why in a new interview with Tipsy Talk.

“They probably realized that the emotional through-line of the story had to be the mission that we were on, and explaining the Enchantress’ position and all that kind of stuff. And the [Harley and Joker] backstory stuff, though it’s magic and some of the stuff we shot was insane, they are flashbacks … so there’s a lot, but it just didn’t make sense to confuse the present storyline to incorporate all that,” Margot said during the interview.

Margot wouldn’t rule out a whole separate movie addressing Harley Quinn and The Joker.

“I’m trying to make that happen,” Margot said. “There’s just so much more to do.”

I don’t agree that ‘back story’ stuff wouldn’t be helpful as the Joker is a main character and one many (in the audience) came to see. Using sex appeal by fast forwarding female characters to the spotlight was a bad decision by the money-hungry moguls who forget why some people actually go to see this franchise, and any and all films. I hope deleted scenes show up in the ‘director’s cut’ version on the DVD. And ‘insane’ was what we wanted. Joker didn’t end up like his by not being driven that… for a reason.

They didn’t include those scenes because they could make millions on the DVD special scenes included…It was deliberate not to include all scenes…Capitalism.

Thanks for clearing that up Margot! You were not prepped with that insightful explanation at all!(Sarcasm) Leto is HIGHLY selective in the roles he chooses, to the point of being just fine with not doing a damn thing for YEARS. I’m pretty sure he would have read the same script and is smart enough to understand it like everyone else. No, sorry, he was doing interviews and promos all over the place talking about all the prep, how it’s the “role of a lifetime”, etc. etc…. only for Ayer and WB after a year of shooting and editing to go “Doh! The emotional through-line needs to be the mission and the Enchantress!!!” If I were Leto, I would have my lawyers look for ways to get me out of that contract! To do that to an Oscar winner, is pretty sad. Plus even if WB did “get” DC (which they don’t) they don’t have the backbone to really do it justice.

they cut it off because they wanted a PG rating instead of an R in order to sell more tickets.
