Thomas Gibson Officially Fired from 'Criminal Minds'

Thomas Gibson has officially been fired from the CBS crime series Criminal Minds after he kicked a writer in the shin.

The 54-year-old actor was suspended for one-to-two episodes following the on-set altercation, which happened during an episode he was directing as well.

Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date,” CBS TV Studios and ABC Studios announced in a joint statement on Friday (August 12).

Thomas has been on Criminal Minds since its debut in 2005 and this isn’t the first time he has been in an on-set altercation. He previously hit an assistant director and had to undergo anger management counseling.

UPDATE: Here is the statement that Thomas released to TMZ: “I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last twelve years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”

Well now they’ll have to write his immediate departure into the story.
Kind of wish the others would stage a walk-off to show their respect for his 10 YEARS AND LONGER participation which helped make the show SUCCESSFUL! I don’t know what happened, but a a ‘break’ would work just as well. Thomas IS THE TALENT THAT DELIVERS THEIR WORDS. And frankly, not knowing what the issue was, other than creative differences, I side with Thomas because he DOES know his character well and the story not to mention how the group’s synergy is needed.

So will they lure the narcissistic one back because his “movie star” dream isn’t panning out?

What about the writer’s punishment? He must have provoked him in some way so why must Gibson take all the blame?
Anyway, they better show some respect to us fans and write his character off in a descent way, otherwise I am writing the how off. And they better not kill him off screen like they did with Gideon.

They just destroyed my favorite TV Show. I wont watch it without Thomas, big mistake… F**k you, CBS!

A punishment for having a disagreement? Unless the writer hit first, there is no excuse. To get fired over it–well, I would guess any boss would fire an employee that hit him, but it was probably the last straw–we don’t know the history.

  • Annie M

Never particularly liked him on the show–he was kind of blah. Maybe someone new will put some new life into the show.

  • Gracie

Whatever your feelings are for him, his past history and this incident of violent abuse is unacceptable. For him and the writer (

You both miss the point. His past history and this incident of violent abuse is unacceptable. Send a strong message against violence please

    And so I’m being educated.
Kind of feel he was provoked with intent.

He told the writer attacked first he was just deffending himself, anyway it’s interesting that just he got fired the star of the show. He worked his ass of for 12 year long for this show and directed many episode and by the first incident they kick him out.

  • AK

how the show will make it without him ?? is he the leading role ?!

  • Annie M

You don’t know that this was the first incident.

  • Marion Morrison

Maybe now more Dharma and Greg episodes?

  • Wendy

First Morgan, now Hotch. I really don’t see this show being on for much longer. Which sucks because I love Reid, JJ, Garcia and Rossi. :(

  • suzybel

Well, they just killed the show.

  • suzybel

I did read that he was provoked and it was a reflex defensive kick rather than a deliberate one.

thomas gibson has dui, on-set violence, i bet he’s also got some domestic violence issues, too. hope he doesn’t have any pets, the helpless animals would have no protection from a violent, angry man.
