Ian McKellen Turned Down $1.5 Million Offer to Marry Couple Dressed as Gandalf

Ian McKellen has revealed that he was offered $1.5 million to dress up as Gandalf and marry a “very famous couple,” but he turned it down.

“I was offered one-and-a-half million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf,” the legendary actor told the Daily Mail. “So I said, ‘I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings.’”

The celeb couple was reportedly Facebook co-founder Sean Parker and his wife Alexandra Lenas. They got married back in 2013 with a Lord of the Rings themed wedding and all of the guests were given custom clothes to fit the theme.

There’s probably a copyright issue if he reprises his role outside the film’s own marketing, (wears the costume, says lines from the film, etc.) and makes 1.5 mil.

If money was no issue to this couple, they should have still paid him to come, even out of costume. Spending time with this man has got to be worth more than the kitch value of having some dude standing there in a costume.
