Orlando's Pulse Shooting Victims Will Not Pay Hospital Bills
The victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando earlier this summer will not have to pay any of their hospital bills.
The two main hospitals that treated victims – Orlando Regional Medical Center and Florida Hospital Orlando – released statements saying that they will not bill any of the patients.
“Orlando Health has not sent any hospital or medical bills directly to Pulse patients and we don’t intend to pursue reimbursement of medical costs from them,” Orlando Regional’s parent network said in a statement to People. “We are exploring numerous options to help the victims of the Pulse nightclub tragedy address immediate and ongoing medical costs.”
“It was incredible to see how our community came together in the wake of the senseless Pulse shooting,” Florida Health said in a statement to People. “We hope this gesture can add to the heart and goodwill that defines Orlando.”
Orlando Regional treated a majority of the victims and the hospital’s unreimbursed costs could exceed $5 million. Florida Hospital Orlando’s costs for treating 12 of the victims has amounted to approximately $525,400.
