Ryan Lochte Charged By Rio Police for False Report of Robbery

Ryan Lochte has officially been charged with making a false report of robbery by the Rio police.

The 32-year-old Olympic swimmer will be informed of the charge in the United States so he can decide whether he will send a defense team to Brazil, the police said.

Ryan faces up to 18 months in prison if he is found guilty of the crime. If he decides not to appear in court, there is a chance he is tried in absentia, according to the Associated Press.

The three swimmers that Ryan was with the night of the incident in Rio – Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz, and Jimmy Feigen – all have spoken with investigators and they will not be charged.
