Lupita Nyong'o Tells 'Vogue' She Wants To Help 'Create Opportunities For People Of Color'

Lupita Nyong’o is absolutely stunning in a headwrap as she takes the 2016 October cover of Vogue, hitting newsstands nationally on September 21!

Here’s what the 33-year-old Queen of Katwe star had to share with the mag:

On telling African stories: “Being able to use my platform to expand and diversify the African voice. I feel very passionate about that. It feels intentional, meaningful.”

On beauty standards: “The European sense of beauty affects us all. I came home from college in the early two-thousands and saw ads on TV with a girl who can’t get a job. She uses this product. She gets her skin lighter. She gets the job. The lording of lighter skin is a common thing growing up in Nairobi. Being called ‘black mamba.’ The slow burn of recognizing something else is better than you.”

On using her platform: “There are certain cards that have been dealt me that I take on. I want to create opportunities for other people of color because I’m fortunate enough to have a platform to do that. That is why Eclipsed and even Queen of Katwe are so important, to change the narrative, offer a new lens on African identity.”

FYI: Lupita is wearing a Chanel dress and Cathy Waterman earrings on the cover.

I’m not black but if I were, I’d be more proud of someone like Lupita representing me and my culture than say someone like Beyonce. This woman seems very genuine on bringing change and issues on diversity. She’s just so elegant, beautiful, well spoken, and seems to practice what she preaches. That cover is absolutely gorgeous.

Sorry but would like to see anything else rather than seeing more movies about African struggles or your damn identity issues. my god man get over yourselves already. It’s not on the top of the list for me to care for a culture that doesn’t care about my own.

    * Snakes are feared for their venomous bite although statistics show spiders & bees are leading the majority of bite & sting hospitalisations. Spiders were the worst culprits accounting for a third of admissions according to a report by the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare. about 60% of total admissions were red-backs, with white-tailed spiders responsible for 7% & funnel web spiders for 3%. snake bites accounted for just 15%.
    * At University of Queensland studies, according to Dr Helena Purkis suggests negative information is more to blame for the fear factor & only people with little or no experience with snakes or spiders displayed negative responses when their attention is captured.
