Leonardo DiCaprio Introduces New Technology for Monitoring Global Fishing Practices
Leonardo DiCaprio speaks on stage at the Our Oceans Conference held at the State Department’s Harry S. Truman building on Thursday (September 15) in Washington, D.C.
The 41-year-old actor and environmental activist unveiled a new online tool called Global Fishing Watch that allows people to keep track of global fishing practices, a project of Oceana, SkyTruth, and Google.
“They are … pushing our oceans to the very brink,” Leonardo said at the event, referring to those who carelessly cause damage to the environment. “Treating our oceans as an endless resource and a dumping ground for our waste.”
The event was hosted by the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
