Gabrielle Union Sues BET Over 'Being Mary Jane' Salary

Gabrielle Union is suing BET after the network allegedly tried to pay her less money by taping two seasons of Being Mary Jane back-to-back.

The actress was assured by BET execs that no season of the show will exceed 13 episodes, but the network wants to produce two 10-episode seasons right after each other to “cram all of the episodes into a single season in order to fraudulently extend the term of Ms. Union‘s contract,” according to THR.

Gabrielle will be paid $150,000 per episode for season four and she is contractually obligated to a raise for the next season. She is slated to make $165,000 for each episode in season five.

Martin Singer, the actress’ lawyer, claims that the network is trying not to give Gabrielle her raise by shooting the two seasons back-to-back. She is suing “for breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation.”

Gabrielle is seeking at least $1 million in damages and to have her contract amended so that no more than 13 episodes can be produced each season.
