Scarlett Johansson, Laverne Cox, & More Cover Variety's Power of Women L.A. Issue

Laverne Cox, Ava DuVernay, Scarlett Johansson, and Helen Mirren take separate covers for Variety‘s Power of Women issues!

The ladies – who were also joined by Miley Cyrus for the honor – opened up to the mag – here’s what they shared:

Laverne, on her involvement with National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP): “What’s so exciting about the work NCAVP does is it’s also about changing the narrative of who LGBTQ people are and when we begin to change the narrative, then we reduce violence against those communities. And so much of that narrative comes from data collection. For years they’ve been the only agency tracking violence against the LGBTQ community. It is vital, vital work the NCAVP is doing to change the narrative, to change policy, to change lives.”

Scarlett, on Planned Parenthood: “It’s pretty terrifying. Somehow, a woman’s right to choose has become a subject that’s on the Republican platform. I don’t really know what it has to do with politics at all. It seems to be a deeply personal issue.”

Ava, on her diverse casting: “I wanted to make sure all girls see themselves in the film.”
