'New York Times' Won't Retract Story, Tells Donald Trump to Sue

The New York Times has responded to Donald Trump‘s legal team’s request to have the newspaper retract its story about two women who claim the Republican presidential candidate touched them inappropriately.

David McCraw, the newspaper’s lawyer, responded by saying the paper will not be retracting the story as the libel claim is invalid.

“The essence of a libel claim, of course, is the protection of one’s reputation,” the letter read. “Mr. Trump has bragged about his non-consensual sexual touching of women. He has bragged about intruding on beauty pageant contestants in their dressing rooms. He acquiesced on a radio host’s request to discuss Mr. Trump’s own daughter as a ‘piece of ass.’ Multiple women not mentioned in our article have publicly come forward to report on Mr. Trump’s unwanted advances. Nothing in our article has had the slightest effect on the reputation that Mr. Trump, through his own words and actions, has already created for himself.”

“It would have been a disservice not just to our readers but to democracy itself to silence their voices,” the letter continued. “We did what the law allows: We published newsworthy information about a subject of deep public concern. If Mr. Trump disagrees, if he believes that American citizens had no right to hear what these women had to say and that the law of this country forces us and those who would dare to criticize him to stand silent or be punished, we welcome the opportunity to have a court set him straight.”

Donald Trump has already addressed the accusations during a rally in Florida.

“So now we address the slander and libels that was just last night thrown at me by the Clinton machine and New York Times and other media outlets as part of a concerted coordinated and vicious attack,” Trump said. “These vicious claims about me of inappropriate conduct with women are totally and absolutely false. And the Clintons know it. And they know it very well. These claims are all fabricated. They’re pure fiction. And they’re outright lies. These events never, ever happened.”

  • Maria M.

NYT is beyond pathetic. They are not better than a tabloid for decades now.

  • John Dow

So, NYT don’t have any single evidence to prove those accusations and they are just appealing to public’s opinion? Looks like TMZ has a new rival :)

  • Seriously

Let me know when you provide some evidence of the cabal of Clinton accusers Trust Fund Donnie paraded around at the last debate. Or maybe some footage of Bill bragging about sexually assaulting women. Can’t wait to see what you got.

  • Matt

It is rare that you can have proof of sexual assault when it is groping or kissing in a one on one private situation idiot (Oh wait, but we do have Trump recorded admitting to it) . You are appealing to rape culture by downplaying any woman’s accusations.

  • John Dow

Allegations without evidence is a lie.

  • Jess

You’re obviously confusing it with the New York Post. You’d be hard pressed to find a publication in this country more distinguished than the New York Times. Just saying.

  • celiaD

I don’t think you know the definition of accusation, bud.

  • John Dow

    My bad, i meant allegations.
