Taylor Swift Wrote Little Big Town's Song 'Better Man' - Read the Lyrics & Listen Now!

Country group Little Big Town just announced that Taylor Swift is the writer behind their new song “Better Man,” off of their upcoming album The Breaker.

Before releasing the music video for the song on Tuesday (November 1), the group explained that Taylor pitched them the song and they knew they had to record it.

“Some of you have been asking and we told you that there was a young girl in Nashville that wrote it by herself, and it’s Taylor Swift. She sent us this song and it was one that was really special to her, and she thought of us because of the harmonies. She’s never pitched the song to anyone before and the moment that we heard it we were like, ‘Man, that is a song that we’re going to cut,’” Karen Fairchild explained.

Phillip Sweet added, “This one just felt special. We’ve known Taylor since she was in high school. She’s a dear friend of ours. The song speaks for itself and that’s what we thought when we heard it, no matter who wrote it. It feels like it was meant for us to go with this emotion. It felt like it belonged to us and we made it our own.”

I know I’m probably better off on my own
Than lovin’ a man who didn’t know
What he had when he had it
And I see the permanent damage you did to me
Never again, I just wish I could forget when it was magic
I wish it wasn’t 4am, standing in the mirror
Saying to myself, you know you had to do it
I know the bravest thing I ever did was run

Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I can feel you again
But I just miss you, and I just wish you were a better man
And I know why we had to say goodbye
Like the back of my hand
And I just miss you, and I just wish you were a better man
A better man

I know I’m probably better off all alone
Than needing a man who could change his mind at any given minute
And it’s always on your terms
I’m hanging on every careless word
Hoping it might turn sweet again
Like it was in the beginning
But your jealousy, I can hear it now
You’re talking down to me like I’ll always be around
You push my love away like it’s some kind of loaded gun
Boy, you never thought I’d run

Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I can feel you again
But I just miss you, and I just wish you were a better man
And I know why we had to say goodbye
Like the back of my hand
And I just miss you, and I just wish you were a better man
A better man
Better man

I hold onto this pride because these days it’s all I have
And I gave you my best and we both know you can’t say that
You can’t say that
I wish you were a better man
I wonder what we would’ve become
If you were a better man
We might still be in love
If you were a better man
You would’ve been the one
If you were a better man
Yeah, yeah

Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I can feel you again
But I just miss you, and I just wish you were a better man
And I know why we had to say goodbye
Like the back of my hand
And I just miss you and I just wish you were a better man
A better man
Better man

We might still be in love, if you were a better man
Better man…

Hey look, another “you’re the reason it’s over” song.

If you look at this from Taylor’s perspective, which is probably not what she or Little Big Town want, you wind up with a pretty illustrative compendium of all the guys who didn’t quite measure up. Let’s hope she doesn’t become jaded.

If you look at all the songs that have been written since 1950 (when I first started to listen to music) the number of somebody done me wrong songs out number the no one done me wrong, but I am going to write a song anyway by about 8 to 1. 12 to 1 in country music. The only style that does not run heavy to somebody did me wrong is Cool or Cal. Jazz by the likes of Dave Brubeck, Acker Bilk, Bent Fabric, and so on. with Brubeck his music mostly had no words, but you could not feel somebody done me wrong in 5/4 or 6/4 or 7/4 or 13/4 or 9/8 time. Sandy Nelson also had few somebody done me wrongs, but it would be hard to convey that on drums.

So it is a little disingenuous of you to fault Miss Swift for making the type of music that sells, after all that is part of the reason she goes to all the trouble to write, and record music, AND I would be willing to bet that if you have ever dated, you did not put the blame for the break up on your self (as Miss Swift did in one song) I’ll bet it was the other jerks fault even if you were both jerks.

That’s the dumbest reply I’ve ever read. congratulations.

Just tossing a statement “dumbest reply I’ve ever read” does not cut it. explain.

Of course the man-hating feminist Taylor Swift wrote this song. The lyrics indicate that men are the only ones to blame. Women? They are perfect, with the only thing wrong being the men.

She wouldn’t mind if I wrote a song called ” if you were a better woman.” Or would she?

If you want to know what equality is, don’t expect a woman to illustrate it. She will let her feelings overwhelm her to the point of skewed perspectives on ACTUAL reality, rendering her biased and therefore unfit to know a darn thing about true equality.

  • Mark Jekabson

I honestly don’t think she would mind if you wrote a song called ‘a better woman’. It doesn’t have the same ring to it as ‘a better man’ but that has more to do with society than with Taylor herself.
