Mariah Carey's Prenup Details with James Packer Revealed

Before Mariah Carey and her fiance James Packer broke up recently, they were in the middle of negotiating their prenup and now details from the legal docs have been revealed.

After Mariah‘s team received the draft from Packer‘s team, they reportedly rejected it as it was “tacky and insulting,” according to TMZ.

The site points out that the prenup made her seem like a “mail order bride” as there was a clothing allowance, an expense account and credit card clause, terms about when she could use his private planes, and a condition about which gifts she could keep if they split.

“Except for gifts between them for their engagement, wedding or on birthdays and anniversaries, no item of jewelry and/or personal adornment costing over $250,000 will be deemed a gift unless accompanied by, or promptly followed by, a writing specifically stating ‘This is my gift to you,’” one clause in the contract read.

The part of the prenup that caused the biggest problem was this one: “James will pay Mariah, and Mariah shall accept, $6 million dollars per year for each full year of marriage, up to a maximum of $30 million … adjusted pro-rata on a weekly basis [$151,385 per week].” She reportedly got him to agree to a $50 million lump sum if they were to ever end the marriage.

If you don’t want to be treated like a gold digger don’t act like one.

Sorry, he’s a freakin Billionaire! He has to protect his wealth and unfortunately for him doing so when it comes to marriage, is most important. Women don’t always look at men like him because they love him the man, they love the status of the man. So, to me Mariah is coming off like a person seeking security and lifestyle perks not holy matrimony with a man she loves. Best he knows now, which he already knew, however, it saves him millions in attorney fees in 2 years because she wants a divorce and wants to void the prenup.

They still would be together if he was less rich.Oh. Wait ! Would they have to be together if he was less rich !!

They hadn’t even set a wedding date but had a prenup? He must have really been sick and tired of gold diggers like Miranda Kerr.

How ridiculous! Mariah has a net worth of $520 million! If she truly loves the man, she wouldn’t be so concerned with how much she gets if he ends the marriage (assuming they ever get married)… They should each leave the marriage with what they came into it with (except for gifts and maybe a clause if either one cheats!)

Good old greed at work here. With all these conditions, it was bound to last about as long as the pull date on a gallon of milk.

I’d hate to say it but Mariah is the one coming off worse for wear here. James (after several failed marriages) is going into this much like a business transaction, and perhaps rightfully so. Mariah, who’s considerably wealthy on her own just seems like a greedy cow by expecting ‘x’ and ‘y’. As someone else previously mentioned, they should just leave the marriage with what they came with, besides dignity (obviously)

These stipulations are fair though. He has to be able to protect his money somehow. They may seem tacky on the outside, but $250,000 for jewelry is a lot of money.

    so ridiculous……

My guess is that Carey is hurt. I think she is a fragile person anyway. She’s the one who got dumped. When people get dumped, they often want to take some kind of “dig” at their ex just to feel better. Of course, she has enough money of her own to need nothing from Packer. Maybe time will heal the hurt.

  • Do Tell

True, but she got dumped… maybe scorned. Who knows? He is a billionaire. He may very well have another woman lined up, which would make Carey angry enough to try to hit back at him some way.

I hope Carey can be a bigger person. There are so many other men in this world to choose from. Don’t waste time in anger and bitterness.
