Jennifer Lawrence Pens Open Letter After Donald Trump Win

Jennifer Lawrence Pens Open Letter After Donald Trump Win

Jennifer Lawrence is speaking out about Donald Trump‘s victory in the 2016 Presidential Election.

The 26-year-old actress wrote a letter about the importance of changing our negative emotions – fear, sadness, and anger – into love and hope for the future.

“Is this the stark reality?” she wrote on VICE’s feminist channel Broadly. “It doesn’t matter how hard you work or how qualified you are, at the end of the day, you’re not a man? Is that what we just learned? This country was founded on immigration and today the only people that feel safe, that their rights are recognized and respected are white men.”

“I want to be positive; I want to support our democracy, but what can we take away from this? It’s a genuine question that we all need to ask ourselves. We shouldn’t blame anyone, we shouldn’t riot in the streets. We should think strongly and clearly about what to do next because we cannot change the past.”

“If you’re worried about the health of our planet, find out everything you can about how to protect it. If you’re worried about racial violence love your neighbor more than you’ve ever tried to before—no matter what they believe or who they voted for. If you’re afraid of a wall putting us all into another recession then organize and stand against it.”

“If you’re a woman and you’re worried that no matter how hard you work or how much you learn, there will always be a glass ceiling, then I don’t really know what to say. I don’t know what I would tell my daughter if I were you. Except to have hope. To work for the future.”

“We’re all allowed to be sad that the present isn’t what we thought it was. But we mustn’t be defeated. We will keep educating ourselves and working twice as hard as the man next to us because we know now that it is not fair. It is not fair in the workplace, so you make it impossible to fail. And like Hillary [Clinton], it might not work.”

“But like Hillary, you can still be an inspiration and get important things done. Do not let this defeat you—let this enrage you! Let it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn’t have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman—don’t be afraid, be loud!”

Dear Hollywood celebrities, You exist for my entertainment. Some of you are great eye candy. Some of you can deliver a line with such conviction that you bring tears to my eyes. Some of you can scare the crap out of me. Others make me laugh. But you all have one thing in common, you only have a place in my world to entertain me. That’s it. You make your living pretending to be someone else. Playing dress up like a 6 year old. You live in a make believe world in front of a camera. And often when you are away from one too. Your entire existence depends on my patronage. I’ll crank the organ grinder; you dance. I don’t really care where you stand on issues. Honestly, your stance matters far less to me than that of my neighbor. You see, you aren’t real. I turn off my TV or shut down my computer and you cease to exist in my world. Once I am done with you, I can put you back in your little box until I want you to entertain me again. I don’t care that you don’t like Mr.Trump. But I bet you looked cute saying it. Get back into your bubble. I’ll let you know when I’m in the mood for something blue and shiny. And I’m also supposed to care that you will leave this great country if Trump becomes president? Ha. Please don’t forget to close the door behind you. We’d like to reserve your seat for someone who loves this country and really wants to be here. Make me laugh, or cry. Scare me. But realize that the only words of yours that matter are scripted. I might agree with some of you from time to time, but it doesn’t matter. In my world, you exist solely for my entertainment. So, shut your pie hole and dance.

Dear Jennifer, I’m a white woman and I feel safe and respected. Sorry you don’t. Now shut your yap and count your money. BTW, I hope your next movie bombs. I won’t be seeing it.

  • mahalo1990

Thank you John Dow! Perfectly said!

  • Maria M.

She is talented but not very smart or well educated. I doubt she graduated from high school. And here she is, writing essays that should be reserved for intellectuals, people with credibility and credentials, because she is FAMOUS. Her opinion should matter because she is FAMOUS. You should shut up about the privilege, Jennifer! It’s hypocrisy. Hollywood should shut up about politics already. They are clowns. They are dancing monkeys and nobody should take them seriously. If you want to be taken seriously go to school instead of showing your tits on screen.

It’s been one year since I finally resigned from my old job and I never felt this good… I started working from home, for a company I found on-line, for a few hrs a day, and I profit now much more than i did on my old job… Last payment i got was for $9k… Superb thing about this work is that now i have more time for my family… http://korta.nu/MDe

but you also make them richer than you, and give them the opportunity to be free from the chains of a 9-to-5, morgage, choosing to pay certain things or to spend money in certain things but to sacrify other things because you have a budget you need to stick to.

I don’t know you, and you may well be someone who has a comfortable life and one of the lucky ones who doesn’t go through the things I just described, but if not, then realize that they are not to entertain you, it’s you who is there to consume what they are offering.
And one last thing, she may not speak directly to YOU, but she is speaking to millions and millions of people who feel alone and affraid at this moment, because your candidate chose the wrong words to deliver a message. And understandably so! Trump chose to deliver his message full of hate and fear; he could’ve chosen a different strategy, “Make America Great Again” is a great aspirational motto, but it is the wrong motto if you fill it with hate, dissintegration, racisn, xenophobia and bigotry (these are not just my words but the words of MILLIONS of people as well).

Just as you feel angry with your government, you feel betrayed by all the politicians, they are also feeling affraid. Just as your feelings and your views are valid so are theirs.

  • Benny Ehud

We elected a President that isn’t an intellectual!! We don’t value “people knowing things” now. He got elected b/c he is FAMOUS!
Nobody should take Trump seriously, but he’s the President-Elect now. Go figure. 59 mil ppl in America valued stupidity in this election. They voted for a CLOWN! He’s a complete IDIOT!

  • Liverwurst

Jennifer has a right to voice her opinion.. being a celeb doesn’t exclude her from that right. I can always read no further if I want to. However: The fact is both candidates this election were lacking. Our choice was between crazy or corrupt. What we can take away from this election is push for a stronger third party. Don’t not vote for a 3rd party because you think they won’t win (the surely won’t if you do this) I wish to see a woman president in my life time but Hillary just wan’t woman enough for the job.

  • mahalo1990

You are wrong on multiple points…. they are here to entertain us… it is in the title of their “job title”… they are “ENTERTAINERS” – therefore the sole purpose of their job is to entertain me the consumer. Yes I am a consumer of their product (i.e. their entertainment worth and value) – but I CHOOSE to place a value on their worth as an entertainer – I choose to consume what they are offering not her/them.

Hillary Clinton used just as much hate in her own campaign – she herself used the exact words:

“you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of
deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic,
Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like
    that. ”

She made a generalization, that not only labeled and judged people she has never met – she unintentionally put herself in the so called basket of deplorables. People she feels are less then anyone else who does not believe or think they way she does – therefore she fits in right with them – b/c according to her unless you agree with someone on all their ideals and beliefs you are less then. So she is a deplorable to those that disagree with her.

She is married to the same type of man that she campaign against and people are rioting against (who most of them voted for not once but twice) – an accused rapist and molester. Funny how crimes only apply to other people – but never the one’s making the accusations when they have 10x the skeletons in their own closet.

Dear Jennifer, just thank your lucky stars that you are part of the wealthy elite in this country where you do not fear deportation, embarassment, and any other life inconvenience that Trump may bring upon Mexicans, Latinos, Muslims, Women and probably anyone in between who isn’t a white male.

  • HankHill/Back the Badge

You feel respected when he says he will “grab you by the p***?” Grow a brain.

  • MissyMiss

You grow a brain. It was all talk. Vile disgusting talk and he apologized. I don’t know any woman who doesn’t feel safe because Trump was elected. Take your silly faux drama elsewhere. You sound like a moron.

  • Curt Noydb

I always loved you as an actress. Of course now, I realize you were just reciting lines written for you by others. Your close minded views seem that you get your opinions the same way.

Any of you clutching your pearls at the thought of Trump’s language go to see one of the Magic Mike movies? I did and I saw way more offensive things on t-shirts than this. There is just as much “locker room” talk by women as there is men.

I am a woman and I am tired of the double standard.

What Hollywood doesn’t understand is that it had nothing to do with Hillary being a woman. Here is why she lost. People in the middle class are struggling. They are trying to feed their kids and pay their bills. They are sick of all the social programs being in the forefront. They are being picked apart like roadkill by the Washington vultures. For the most part they really don’t care one way or the other about transgender bathroom issues or which endangered species needs saved this week, that’s all super drama made up by the media to keep all the liberals hating the right. People want to know that they are going to be able to buy groceries and put gas in their car or still have a decent job to be able to do those things. They wanted change and Donald Trump played right to that. Hillary may be the most politically qualified candidate but she wanted to continue with all the things that are killing the middle and these Hollywood elite don’t have to worry about any of that. They are so out of touch with the common people. As a woman I can’t wait to have a woman president but one that is for all the people not one that caters to her Hollywood buddies. They thought they were helping her but let me tell you when she trotted out Katie and Beyonce and Springsteen and Bon Jovi that was the straw that broke the little people’s back. We need jobs not puppy dogs and rainbows.

  • mahalo1990

Dear Clown, I could be wrong – but you voted for a women who laughed in the very face of ONE of the women that accused her husband of raping her – and who’s entire campaign relies upon the money, homage, and support of actors and other entertainers… who have stars on the same street. #hypocrite

  • Bruce Wayne

What a stupid woman. The fact of the matter is Hillary is not qualified to be President has nothing to do with her being a woman. It’s because of her server, her foundation, and her failures. The fact is, she is where she is today because she rode on Bill’s coattails. The same Bill, who groped, harrassed, had multiple extra-marital affairs, and raped. After all, Jennifer Lawrence knows about “rape.” She even said that she felt “raped” when her iCloud was hacked and all her 500 nude photos and videos were released to the public. Seriously,…could anyone even make a case for Hillary that she really is a feminist? Doesn’t a feminist supposed to be able to stand on her own two feet without men?

LOL…she’s even advising Hillary on how she can remain insiprational.

Like I said, Jennifer Lawrence = incredibly stupid.

  • Vanessa Graten

What is the point of this letter though? She said nothing new; she just regurgitated the same sh*t that has been said over and over again since Trump was elected. The sad thing is that she probably felt so proud of herself after writing it, thinking she did the world a favour by gracing us with her opinion.

I want to like her, I do. But she grates on my nerves with her “holier than thou, read my letters on feminism” attitude. I don’t think she even cares about the things she writes…it seems very PR driven.

  • Cruizin1960

What can we take away from this? How about that we didn’t want someone who had been involved in scandal after scandal in the WH. Or, that we didn’t want someone who we felt should have been indicted for negligence with regards to her hidden server. Or the fact that she and her family are currently under criminal investigation by the FBI. Or the fact that SHE is more likely to take us into war than Trump. Or the fact that she has been a part of the failed system for pretty much her entire adult life. Is that enough for you Jennifer? Except for the rare voter, it was not about Clinton’s gender…although it appears that is the reason why YOU supported her if it is such an issue for you. The Republican Party has now become the party of the middle class…the blue collar worker…those who play by the rules but get nowhere. YOU would know this if you actually paid attention to the world around you.

Your letter is an insult to everyone who voted for our new President. But, why should I be surprised. It is you and people like you who belong to the party of intolerance and exclusion. Rather than celebrating the fact that HRC is the first woman who has ever been a Presidential candidate for a major party….you whine and complain…and assert it is out mysogyny and racism. Perhaps the reason Trump won is because the people who voted for him are DONE being labeled and made to feel bad because of their race or gender.

  • Kelly

Why should we care about their opinion any less than yours? We’re all American citizens at the end of the day and we all have a right to voice our opinion. Also, let’s not forget that Trump is a celebrity.

Well said. All of a sudden everyone in Hollywood is a feminist and cares about LGBT community. It’s PR bullshit. They go as far to lie about their sexuality like Megan Fox because they want to brand themselves as hip and cool. God only knows what their real opinions are.

  • Sabrina

Dear Clown, you voted for somebody who might be a rapist ;-)

  • tom

The pretentious and vulgar actress with cum on her face writes an open letter so we all can rest easy about the world and go to sleep at night with faith in humanity.

  • JJ

Thank you, it sums up exactly what i am thinking !
Clinton is more qualified in my opinion, but everything that we remember about her and her program is that she is a woman who wants kindness for everyone. But honestly, who cares when your country is in debt, w no jobs etc. ? She has plans that has been mostly approved but bc she played the “celebrity” card, she lost. She should not have put all her potentiel in her gender, and for causes that are not what people truly need right now.
Trump came w big ideas (but no actuals plans), and people remember him for that, and vote for him. Sad but true.

  • JJ

    Feminism doesn’t mean anything nowadays.

  • Maria M.

We don’t value “people knowing things” NOW? In case you slept the over the last 70 years, America didn’t have a respectable President since FDR. They were all philistines and dilettantes one after another. Simplistic vulgarians like LBJ, Nixon and Reagan that think Latin is spoken in Latin America, neanderthals like Bush Senior and Junior that can’t speak proper English and charming frauds like JFK, Clinton and Obama that sound eloquent enough when reciting speeches written by their advisors but can’t really remember why the WWI started. Trump is notch up compared to the last republican president that believed in demons and supernatural creatures like Gog and Magog. And he wasn’t elected because he is famous but because he is lesser of two evils, because people are sick and tired of liberal frauds and their hypocrisy and corrupt scum like HRC.

  • Douglas from Brazil

Girl, you have two oscars, and you are the most paid actress in the country. You’ll be fine, whatever had the outcome of the election.

  • Douglas from Brazil

Your comment made me realize that sometimes people and including treat them like normal people but in the end they’re just something you can turn off from tv or computer. It scaries me.

  • Benny Ehud

They may have ALWAYS been philistines and/or dilettantes. I have never heard numerous previous Presidents speak. We don’t know what vernacular they used. You seem to have a grandiose view of early U.S. Presidents. Furthermore, Trump isn’t a notch up from Bush. Trump is an idiot. Believing in Gog and Magog doesn’t make one an dumb. Gog and Magog aren’t considered demons nor supernatural creatures. They are considered to be countries.

Trump was in contention b/c he was famous. He was elected by people in the U.S. who are racists bigots. He didn’t receive the majority of the votes, and he didn’t even receive more votes than Clinton. Too many voters look at these two and decided they didn’t want either. Now, we have a President that loathes blacks and Hispanics and hates Muslims. One wrong move from him will be treated as casus belli.

  • mahalo1990

Dear clown – as did you, not once but twice. Oh and he was impeached during his presidency.
    Nice try tho :)

  • Maria M.

    W. said to Jacques Chirac and Mahmoud Abbas that Gog and Magog are at work in Iraq and must be defeated. He said he is on the mission from God in launching the invasion of Iraq.
“In a 2003 interview, Jacques Chirac, President of France at that time, affirmed that President George W. Bush asked him to send troops to Iraq to stop Gog and Magog, the “Bible’s satanic agents of the Apocalypse.” According to Chirac, the American leader appealed to their “common faith” (Christianity) and told him: “Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East…. The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled…. This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins.”
He was a raving fucking lunatic. French were so horrified that they vetoed invasion at UN, something that allied nations never do. Don’t tell me Trump is worse than that. And it is statistically impossible that he was elected by racist bigots because what would that say about America? How many bigots is there? He thinks emigration is great issue for America, which is, that doesn’t make him a racist. He doesn’t hate Muslims but jihadists, with every right. He is not a neocon warhawk, but a conservative realist. He will continue war on terror but I don’t expect him to start a new war. If America wasn’t a hyperpower half of world would declare war to it considering all aggressive moves it makes around the globe. But when you have a big stick people aren’t so keen.

  • Sabrina

    He? Who?

  • Benny Ehud

Gog and Magog are considered nations in Revelations. That’s how Bush would have taken it. Even in the Torah, Gog is considered an individual

All of Trump’s supporters aren’t racist. Although, I can’t see how it is statistically impossible for all of them to be so. Now, it may be statistically improbable, however. But the vast majority of his supporters are racist. And the ones who aren’t racist saw a racist and still voted for him.

Emigration means going to another country. He thinks immigrating nonwhites, especially Hispanics, is bad for America. He HATES Muslims. He called for ban on Muslims entering the U.S. And, he’s going to have to be a warhawk to “know the sh** out of ISIS.”

He may be a conservative realist. I don’t know the meaning of that term, and I don’t care. What I know is that he LOATHES black ppl. He dislikes Hispanics living in the U.S. And he hates Muslims! He’s a racist bigots. NUMEROUS incidents, actions and comments throughout his life have borne that out.

  • Debbie Niemeyer

    Yup

  • Maria M.

Don’t be deluded to think Clinton is much better than him. She is privately against gay marriage. And yet whole LGBT community in US voted for her. Because she says one thing in public, other thing when cameras turn off and would do something third in the office. Just like Obama. Their promises are worthless. Black people are being shot on the street all while president is black. It wasn’t this bad during Bush. He did nothing for minorities. Trump says what he thinks. He won because he sent political correctness to hell. This is the age of hypocrisy. I will throw up if another celebrity comes out as a survivor of sexual assault or battery. People like Lady Gaga and Kesha are exploitive, manipulative sleazebags that are demeaning real victims with their lies and BS stories for the sake of their career. And even if all that you say about Trump were true, which isn’t, you should still celebrate his victory. He loves Israel and his presidency is better for Israel than Clinton’s would be. He doesn’t condemn the settlements unlike Democrats.

  • Benny Ehud

I don’t care what one is against privately. She has supported the right for a person to marry who they want to. Blacks are being shot by cops in the street. And the DOJ is doing what they can to stave it off. Now, NOTHING is even going to be pursued. Job/housing discrimination isn’t going to be pursued. Cop shootings aren’t going to be pursued. TRUMP and GUILANNI HATE blacks and Latinos.

He won because a bunch of racist ppl like/didn’t mind that he is racist. That’s why. HE HATES BLACKS! HE HATES HISPANICS! You are one of them. You either agree with him, or you have completely ignored his treatment of blacks. He is a racist and a bigot.

I don’t live in Israel. I live in the U.S. However, Israel would have been just fine with Clinton. And, the settlements should be condemned. They should be condemned, or Israel should just annex the Judea and Samaria. Pick one.

  • Blanche Elizabeth Devereaux

Nah, it’s that America would rather elect a rapist, racist, sexist, bankrupt, no-moral-having, lying, tax-evading pussy grabber who never had a day of public service in his life than actually elect someone with a vagina. Vaginas and equal rights for all is too much of a threat for middle America. DT played into the fears of the uneducated–you lost your job to a Mexican, your wife’s rights make her stronger and thus make you weaker, the gays are going to corrupt your stupid kids….etc. And those who are easily manipulated bought into the fear mongering. And that’s the truth.

  • Kelly

No, THAT is an idiotic remark. Hollywood has always been very liberal. Majority of Hollywood endorsed Obama as well when he was running against Romney… Has that affected any of their movies or sales? Absolutely not.
