Jessica Chastain Dishes on Getting Into Character for 'Miss Sloane'
Jessica Chastain grins while getting her hair and makeup touched up during her appearance on the Today show on Friday (November 25) in New York City.
The 39-year-old actress was there to promote her new movie Miss Sloane.
The political drama tells story of a brilliant lobbyist (Jessica) who is notorious for her unparalleled talent and desire to win, even when it puts her own career at risk.
During the appearance, Jessica opened up about getting into character as a powerful female in a male-dominated industry.
“I met 11 women lobbyists and what really struck me about them was how powerful they were even, almost, before they entered the room,’ Jessica said. “Seven of the 11 were wearing black nail polish, and they carried this energy with them to contend with what they are doing. I found that less than 10 percent of lobbyists are women so I think that they really have to show up.”
“As an actress you don’t get many roles where you’re playing a female character that’s ambitious and a perfectionist and still flawed,” she added. “You see men play these roles all the time. So it’s good to have Elizabeth Sloane there, in the world.”

“We all know D.C. is a boys’ club and one of the criticisms of [Democratic Presidential candidate] Hillary Clinton was that she was over-prepared in the first debate,” Jessica said. “I’ve never heard that about a man, ever. Well, I love that. I’m over-prepared for things and Elizabeth Sloane is too.”
