Man Who Shot Joe McKnight Released from Custody, No Charges Filed Yet

Joe McKnight, a former NFL player for the New York Jets, died on Thursday (December 1) after a man shot him in a road rage incident and now the shooter has been released from custody.

A 54-year-old white male named Ronald Gasser was questioned by authorities and released as “officials believed they had no reason to hold him any longer,” according to TMZ.

The Jefferson Paris Sheriff’s Dept. confirmed that the man “definitely” shot Joe, but that there “are questions about the circumstances surrounding what led up to it.” The case has not yet been closed and the district attorney or a grand jury will decide if charges will be filed.
