Denzel Washington Says He's Lived the Oscars' Lack of Diversity
Denzel Washington is opening up about the lack of diversity at the Academy Awards in light of the #OscarsSoWhite campaign in past years.
The 61-year-old actor is a two-time Oscar winner and is a frontrunner at this year’s awards for his work in the movie Fences.
“I’ve lived it,” Denzel said when asked by 60 Minutes about the lack of diversity.
“I’ve been the guy at the Oscars without my name being called, I’ve been the guy at the Oscars when my name is called, I’ve been the Oscars when everybody thought they were going to call my name and they didn’t. I’ve lived it,” Denzel said.
When asked his response would be to people who call this unfair, Denzel said, “Yeah and so what? Give up? If you’re looking for an excuse, you’ll find one. You can find it wherever you’d like. You can’t live like that. Just do the best you can do.”
