Girl Scouts Release Statement After Inauguration Parade Backlash

The Girl Scouts of the USA has released a statement after receiving a ton of backlash for being one of the groups marching in Donald Trump‘s Inauguration Day Parade tomorrow.

“At Girl Scouts, our movement is made up of individuals who hold political beliefs and convictions as varied as our nation itself. And because every girl has a home at Girl Scouts, every girl in our movement is allowed her own ideas, opinions, beliefs and political ideology. Our fundamental value is empowering girls to be leaders in their own lives. By helping them build the courage, confidence, and character to lift their voices, champion their views, and be advocates for the issues and ideas important to them, Girl Scouts supports girls as they become catalysts for change who strengthen their communities,” the group said in a statement via NBC News.

“Of course, we are a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that by law cannot take positions on political candidates or parties — and we take this very seriously,” the group added. “Advocating for change on issues one cares about isn’t at odds with participating in a century-long tradition that represents the peaceful exchange of power,” they added.

The backlash comes after numerous sexual harassment accusations have been raised against the President, and his lewd comments about women which went viral prior to the election.

Famous former Girl Scouts include Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, Abigail Breslin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Dakota Fanning, Carrie Fisher, Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Robin Roberts, and many more.

If their goal is to empower young girls they sure are supporting the wrong candidate.

All of these folks trying to intimidate participants in the inauguration are nothing but intolerant bullies.

  • Cynic

Marching in the parade is not necessarily showing support for an individual. If you read their statement at all, you’d recall that it said “participating in a century-long tradition that represents the peaceful exchange of power”.

Disgusting that Girl Scouts would support an accused rapist like Donald Trump. At least the Women’s March On Washington the next day will completely remove this mattering.

  • SweetCharity

They are very much taking a position by having the girls march. We can respond by not buying girl scout cookies. The beauty of democracy.

There’s a reason traditions change. Blind adherence to a tradition isn’t good for the girl scouts or anyone else. Reread Shirley Jackson’s, “The Lottery”. An extreme fictional example, but the essence of the situation is the same. This isn’t just any inauguration. It’s one investing a man that many believe to be a sexual predator and one who certainly made lewd comments about women. Participating in THIS inaugural march is tantamount to support for Trump. Hopefully, no girl will be made to march or ostracized for choosing not to.

Trump and Putin are intolerant bullies.

they aren’t supporting him you moron, they are supporting democracy, which is what this country is. what’s disgusting is that your small little brain didn’t expand enough to learn about tolerance

  • idovbnc .

The Girl Scouts are using their democratic privilege to choose to march in the parade to honor American values. Unfortunately some peoples political views are if you don’t go along with their hatred of one candidate 100% you are communist/nazi/etc.

Nope, Girl Scouts. You MUST join the Borg or be destroyed. Unhive-like thinking will NOT be tolerated!

The beauty of the hypocrisy exhibited by many on the left who may foolishly call for a cookie boycott is that Trump supporters AND anyone else who believe in political freedom will buy more cookies than they would have prior to this sad “controversy”. People are fed up, lol, with the childish, butt hurt antics and there may be no safe spaces for the nonsense in the future if you continue.

If they are supporting Trump, who is now censoring the media, they are not supporting democracy, they are supporting a Nazi-fascist. So far in office he has gutted low income housing interest rates, health care, attempting to control the media and created something called “alternate facts” – a FACT is a fact and cannot have an “alternate”…it’s a brainwashing way of getting people to swallow LIES… The Girl Scouts are supposed to be a non-partisan group, and should not be mixing in politics…
