Dennis Quaid Speaks Out Following 'A Dog's Purpose' Controversy

Dennis Quaid is coming to the defense of the cast and crew of his upcoming film A Dog’s Purpose amid animal abuse accusations.

The 62-year-old actor explained that he does not believe there was any harm done to the animals on set.

“I was there. I never saw any abuse of any animal. If there had been, I would have walked,” Dennis told ET.

He added, “My experience is that the animals were treated great. There was no animal abuse. That video that someone took and sold for money and held on to for a year and a half until right before the film’s coming out, does not tell the whole story. First of all, it’s been edited and manipulated. And I think it’s a scam, to tell you the truth.”

Dennis concluded, “That was towards the end of the day and I would not say, in real context, that the dog was frightened. The dog was acting like a dog who was kind of tired of taking a bath and was ready to get out. And, in fact, that’s what happened. They took the dog out.”

The dog was obviously scared and not just “tired of taking a bath”.

With today’s CGI effects, there is absolutely no reason to terrorize/harm animals for a movie. I will be boycotting this film.

  • Joe Rose

from what I saw ,that idiot was trying to push that dog into the water,I won’t see this film

  • therealmoonriver

he wasn’t there and the producer of the film already admitted it was abuse and should never have happened so shut up.

So many armchair experts posting here. How many of you were onset?

  • troydub

You weren’t there either. Neither was the producer. With the troglodytes that vulture around LOOKING for something to piss and moan about, it’s easier to just give out a fake apology and move on than to deal with uneducated idiots jumping blindly on bandwagons.

Tell me… how many times have you made people do things they didn’t want to do? That’s abuse. Maybe we should charge you.

  • Must be nice…

“I wont see this movie now!!!!!!11!”

Yeah, like you idiots had any plans to see it anyway.

  • Kelly

Um, when it endangers their life… Yes.

  • therealmoonriver

I’ve never made someone do something they didn’t want to do. Why would I?

  • therealmoonriver

I saw the video. I love animals and am against any form of abuse and exploitation of them. That’s a good thing. People who don’t care are assholes.

  • moonvision

Apparently neither the Humane Society or the SPCA were there. That is the problem. Were they not told? Did they leave early? I cannot believe Quaid. Hollywood has tunnel vision, they have no soul. If it’s good for the bottom line, they would pimp out their mother. I’ll believe the film, not the has been.

  • Wendy

Why would you make someone do something they don’t want to do? Good people stop when people say no.

  • Michael Alan Smith

I’m still going to see this movie so kiss my ass pussies!

  • troydub

When your kid doesn’t want to eat dinner, or go to the doctor, do you just sit back and say “OK”?

  • troydub

You saw a portion of a video that was held for over a year, then strategically released when the movie was. Are you daft?

  • troydub

We both know that’s not true. Made a friend not drink and drive, made a kid eat their dinner or go to the doctor’s. Think objectively.

  • Wendy

Oh yeah, because forcing a poor animal into dangerous water is totally the same as my kid eating dinner and going to the doctor. No good person would make someone or something do something DANGEROUS if they don’t want to.

Quit sticking up for the stupid people who did this to that poor dog.

  • therealmoonriver

I don’t have friends who drink and drive and I don’t have kids. Being sensible is not the same as making someone MAKE something they didn’t want to do, BTW. YOU be sensible.

  • therealmoonriver

    No, are you?

  • troydub

Apparently you are, if you can’t see that if there really was an issue, or if the person really was concerned, they wouldn’t have WAITED A YEAR TO DISCLOSE IT.

  • troydub

Clearly you’re incapable of being objective, so you’d rather spew stupidity while ignoring that the video of the alleged abuse was held for a year.

  • troydub

You mean, quit sticking up for common sense, like the fact that the video was held for a year before it was released? Obviously there wasn’t abuse if the person waited a year to release the video. But yeah, you jump on the bandwagon.

  • TROLL

I don’t care how old the video is. the producer/director condemned what was done to the dog. so shut up.
